I just swapped out my textured xm antenna in my 2014 Silverado LTZ for the newer style color matched one.  Install went fine, but when I started up my truck the radio screen said “check xm antenna” and the reception was terrible.  I did an xm reflash and that did not help.  So I swapped back to my original.  The message went away and reception came back.

Anyone who swapped shark fins ever run into this problem?  Do I need the dealer to reflash?  Is this a case of the 2.0 HMI not compatible with the new antenna?  Or did I just get a bad antenna?

Like the old antenna except slightly larger , smooth and painted black instead of black textured plastic.

I rather keep the old one, unless you want to spent some $$ for adjust a new one, no one noticed a new one I think.

It took me a minute to figure what you were trying to say in that incoherent response.  I really appreciate your unsolicited opinion.

Anyways, Does anyone have any insight into how I can make this mod work for me?  Because I do notice the difference.

If you plugged in all the way and it's static then I'd say the antenna has issues. Is it OEM? New or used?

Was definitely plugged in fully, and is a brand new factory antenna.  This seems to be a 2014 problem.  I’ve talked with another guy on another forum with the same issue.

I also swapped to the painted antenna, and lost XM.   My issue was that my 2014 Antenna only had the purple connector, and the new Painted Had the Same purple antenna, but also a gold connector.  I believe that the XM antenna is the gold connector in the 15+ trucks, where it was in the purple Connector in 14.

I believe that its as simple as swapping the antenna switcher that is on the passenger side upper dash under the speaker trim, and XM cable, but I would like to get a thread together and see what part numbers are, as I don't have access to GM documents.

Another member, Enduro Guy, was simply giving you an opinion.  It is sometimes good to give our plans a second thought.   There are many discussions on this forum regarding these shark fins and a popular mod is to paint the existing fin.  Some do this while the fin is in place.   Most of the mods I do are for my own visual or functional benefit and I'm not arguing with the idea.  However, sometimes the changes required to make an idea work negate the value of the mod, imo!

I heard that the purple connector is still XM and the gold one is for the Onstar WiFi

On the 14/15 trucks with only the purple connector, Wire #2 is xm, wire #1 is onstar/compass/gps. You gotta take the xm module out of the 14 antenna, wire #2, and install it into the new antenna. I'm currently working on the gps compass issue now as well. For some reason, I cant get the compass to constantly work, just shows "--" where it shows direction. GPS and onstar work perfectly though.  Weird how compass doesnt work but gps and onstar do. All of that is on wire #1another new antenna is on order so I'll see how that goes.

With my painted 15+ antenna on my 14, my compass works 100% as does my Nav, on Star is not active so I don’t know about that.  I just get the check XM antenna message.

So you have no onstar and no xm. Does your onstar light up red on your mirror?  Most of us still want all the functions. Was your antenna a 2 wire or the 3 wire with the gold connector.
