You paid cheap....you got cheap.....and a $40K truck is a cheap vehicle.

time when a Hershey bar was 5 cents and a gallon of gas was a quarter, my dad paid $2200. for a  new '60 Chevy Impala...

He got robbed. 67 Ford Galaxie 500 LOADED $1850.

This was on the dealers lot for $31 K so for 9K you get a Trail Boss logo and a 5.3. Bad trade Dumb Bear.

What chaps my backside is steering wheel controls cost $10K. Oh you get more? Cool. $10K more? Not!

The thing that gets me about these posts. Guys come on and say I paid $x0,000 for my truck and it doesn't have this or that. It does not take much to read a window sticker or search the internet for what options a truck has. Walk around it on the lot. Take it for a test drive. It's like some just walk in the door and say I want that truck, finance it, then drive off without ever noticing anything.

No you don't get what you pay for. $40K should get more than what a Custom TB comes with. Gator don't play no trick.  $40K should include:

- Steering Radio Buttons

- Center Console that opens

- Pockets on the back of seats

- Lights on visor mirrors

- Seats that move up and down in the front

- Seats that move, recline in the back

- More than 1 (ONE) USB port on the center console, or anywhere in the truck for that matter

- Some basic safety feature like lane keep assist

- Push Button Start/Engine Ignition

Ten years ago, you could get most of that for $40K.  Now, all that will cost you $55-65K+, if you can find those features in a truck.  The General has gotten really brave on its sticker prices since We The People bailed them out.  Of course, now the UAW wants a piece of that $$$$$ action, too.

So very true...  This is my 3rd Silverado (model years 2000, 2016, 2019 plus the 1948 I was restoring) I've seen the increases with every passing decade.  On one hand, there is so much technology in a truck today, it's surprising they are not a million dollars each.  Mass production makes the price we pay possible, whether $30K, $40K, $50, $60k.  On  the other hand,  there are so many robots used in the assembly and manufacturing process, it's surprising we haven't realized the benefits (found a cheaper way to get things done and pass that down to the consumer)

Go buy a new model truck then.  I'm sure you'll figure things out.

Whoa!  Yeah, many of us wondering about the steering wheel button(s) decision, it's all bad and not at all worth $10k.  Though some will argue that point, they have an obvious agenda - that is to justify the $45-60K they just spent.  After hearing about LT, LTZs with (1) Leaking Windows, (2) Popping Rooves (3) Slapping & Tapping Front Axle Boots/CV Joints (4) ECM Electronics Shut Downs and (5) Zinging Creaking Power Steering noises,  I think the last thing those poor guys want to hear about, is us complaining about $10K for missing buttons on our steering wheels ?

Well, there’s 4WD LT All Star trucks stacked 10 high at the local dealer that can be had for 35 or less. Nice RST crews for less than 40. Heated seats and steering wheel, steering wheel controls, console storage, rear seat storage, push button start. Great value for the money IMO.

Some still choose the Custom TB over the better equipped “volume trims” for the look, the lift, and/ or the desire to have a simple old school truck. And I get that. Not here to judge, but you can’t have it both ways. The LT/ RST are really well equipped and often times cost less than the Custom TB.

Whatever camp you’re in, just know what you are getting before you sign the papers, and don’t bemoan GM over your decision. ?‍♂️

Just buy what makes you happy......if not having steering wheel controls is that,  then cool.  If it bothers you not to have them, pony up and buy a truck that has them.  But whining due to budget constraints is getting old - for me at least.  So I'll skip over these topics in the future ? and FYI, you may need to justify your lower budget, I do not have to justify my higher one!

You're right.  A really good quote comes to mind - "stay gold pony boy, stay gold"
