Anyone get the 9L7 Upfitter AUX switches

Recommended Posts

So instead of playing counter top tag with the local parts department people chasing part numbers I decided to contact via email to GM "Out Fitters" as to the entire list and availability. This is the response I got from them.

Thanks a bunch!!! Guess on Monday I'll order my kit and the only thing I need to find out is how to remove the knee bolster panel I do think I can do the entire install? I'll be getting a quote from my local dealer too.

Thanks Again

Fantastic info! Thanks. I wonder if the offroad lights through GM Accessories could be spliced into one of these switches instead of utilizing a key fob remote switch.

That’s an awesome update!!! Thank you. Question for the group, in as simple terms as possible, what’s the details on switch 5? Reading precious posts I understand it’s designed for a beacon or snow plow??? But can it be used for other things if so desired? Just want to make sure there aren’t any limiting factors with using it. Thanks in advance.

Yes switch 5 is for the roof top beacon. After look and checking the Up fitters site, I found the roof top beacon is located in the roof switch panel. There is a black (ground) and a green with a black stripe (hot) for the roof beacon. I have traced the provided electrical diagrams with the circuit for switch 5. It is a 30 amp circuit and it appears to be a green with blue wire. I am going to try and intercept the wire at the connector X260 pin 8 or connector X256 pin 30. I will be ordering my up fitters kit 153  kit on Monday morning. I'll also get to see what the dealer mark up is.

I would like to do this my self but I understand the knee bolster is hard to deal with. Other that the knee bolster I think this is a ok install.

FYI: you can root thru the GM up fitters site at this URL https://www.gmupfitter.com/

Picked up my kit last week.  Cost me $203.00 plus tax.  I too exchanged emails with GM up fitter and received the same chart with kit part numbers.  My Chevy dealer could not locate the part in their default parts view application but located it in the GM global parts system.   Took two days to ship from Reno, NV to East Bay, California.

Also exchanged emails with the same tech that sent me the parts matrix and asked if UI bulletin 153 is usable and would be updated from ‘Preliminary’ to ‘Production’ as some of the figures don’t match up with the text references.  He replied:

“They are as accurate as I can validate thus far…we are not yet able to return to the facility to test and updates due to the Covid 19 virus.  I wish I had a better answer but our current anticipated date for full return is sometime next summer, and for some other business function earliest is January, 2021”

I have passed all this on to the up-fitter guy I have worked with in the past on projects for my 2015 Suburban and am awaiting his feedback as to whether or not he would take on this project based on the documentation provided.

This morning I sent another email to GM to request the location of the connectors for switch #5. I am hoping he can get be clearer info on both so I can intercept the wire to utilize it for other loads.

I was wondering could you check with your up fitter and find out the task man hours chargeable to install this #153 kit? My local dealer might take on the install. Also ask you up fitter if he knows a Las Vegas installer and how to contact my local up fitter.

Thanks

Chuck

Switch #5 is just in the grey connector, I just cut it from the connector and now you have 5 wire stubs instead or 4. I then routed them all to a terminal block under the hood so ill never need to run through the firewall again.

Thanks, thats more what I was looking for, pretty sure I will NEVER be running a beacon light but I would like to use the 5th switch for other things..  What type of terminal block did you use?  Any specs on it would be very much appreciated!!!

Which wire in the grey connector? Also, anyone know which wires go to which button? The UI Bulletin doesn’t show the wire-to-button mapping.

It does.. you have to look at the wiring diagram. It says bl/gr switch 5 or whatever it is... thats just off memory

Yep, went back through the entire thread and found the green/blue wire.

Please correct me if I’m wrong, but looking at the schematic in #153 I see some reference to “blunt cut configurations” I’m assuming they map as so:

Aux 1 - Blue

Aux 2 - Grey/Black

Aux 3 - Brown/White

Aux 4 - Yellow/Brown

Aux 5 - Green / Blue

Yea you just ground to frame, I usually ground to wherever I’m mounting something. For the switched power there is a new fuse box you mount that has fuses for the switches. Depending on the location of the fuses, they can be either ignition switched or constant power. They are grouped switch 1 and 2 together and 3 and 4 so you could potentially have some stuff constant power and other stuff switched. Pretty slick!

@2k19Sierra Are you just shifting the 5Amp fuses to the left or right for ignition or switched power?
