I have a 2014 GMC Sierra. Its recently started making a humming noise when I accelerate. It goes away the second you take your foot off the gas. It's been in 4x4 auto since I've driven it. I discovered that if you switch it to 2 wheel drive, the humming doesnt occur during acceleration. If you switch it back to 4wheel auto, the humming comes back. The differential? What is causing this and why?

Sounds like it is in the transfer case. If truck isn't lifted or lowered then I wouldn't have reason to blame the joints first.

My Sierra makes the same noise when accelerating in Auto or 4HI. I think it's just transfer case noise and is considered normal.

Humming sound under acceleration, Agreed check 2wd/awd selector, try in 2wd see if noise persists, I would say wheel bearing also but you said only under acceleration so it is tied to the driveline somewhere.

You don't have Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm Mmmm by the Crash Test Dummies on repeat by chance do you?

Anyone ever get this solved? 2014 gmc 1500 sle doing the same thing and it’s now so loud it’s becoming unbearable. Got worse after wife got it stuck in a snow drift, then thawing out.

Thanks!
