Update MyLink in 2016 Silverado LTZ

I bought a used 2016 Silverado LTZ with 37k miles a couple weeks ago. It has Apple CarPlay, but it does not have Android Auto. My understanding is that Android Auto was not initially available, and the MyLink system needs to be updated in order to use Android Auto. The 2016 model does not have the option to update via the internet, and the dealership said since the bumper-to-bumper warranty is expired, it would cost $140+tax to update my MyLink system (which is way too much just get Android Auto). Is there absolutely no way to perform this update on my own?

The current software version is 84028481.

I wish I knew about all this before getting the truck. I would have never expected to need to check if a software update from 3 years ago was installed. The service department at the dealership said since it was a convenience thing, if the previous owners had iphones, the system wouldn't have been updated.

I do agree it's worth a fair price?  Sucks because you didn't know and dealer didn't know about this either before signing.  If you were aware that vehicle didn't have option and you wanted it etc.  Dealer would have said, "no problem" you buy it absolutely we will install it!  Now.....they will for a fee?

I don't see it being worth $140. With Google Assistant voice, I can place my phone in the center console where I can see it, and do most of what android auto can do (it would just be nice to have it on the bigger, easier to see screen). I also have a major problem paying somebody $140 to plug in a computer and click a few buttons. If they were actually diagnosing a problem and fixing it maybe, but I would never pay that much for just a software update.

Zero way to do it yourself.  Perhaps some milk and cookies for your salesperson and they can pull some strings?
