Winter steel rims.

Hey guys, went to install my winter tires today on my 2019 At4; And what do you know the winter tires form my 2017 don’t fit. Looks like gm changes the offset and my 2017 17 inch rims hit the calliper. Anyone know the offset that the rim has to be on a 17 inch rim? Up here in the north the dealers want $300 a rim.

There's many topics on this and have been since the '19's came out. The offset has changed but that's not the biggest issue. GM went to a larger 4 piston brake caliper and it's now about the angle of the spokes. That's the issue you'll have with '14-'18 wheels. Not so much the offset but the spokes hitting the caliper because of the angle.

I’m sorta in the same boat.  Wanted to get a set of steelies for winter but can’t seem to find a used set.  I check Craigslist daily. Don’t really want to pay full retail on a new set from GM either.

Think there’s a few factory 2014-18 alloy wheels that will fit but you’re best bet is to stick with a 2019 wheel.

I have fairly new BFGOODRICH KO2’s that have the snowflake/mountain peak symbol that I’m going to run this year.  I’m also concerned about the salt destroying my rims but I’ll be sure to keep them clean.

You could try to see if there’s aftermarket steelies available.

I was actually playing around on the Costco website the other day and steel wheels came up for $69 each when I entered my truck info.  Just went on again this morning and the steel wheels aren’t showing up anymore.  They probably had issues clearing the calipers.

EDIT-when I select 2018 in the vehicle info, several steel wheel options appear, I’m betting Costco was having issues with the callipers.

The base 2019 trucks do have steelies and 255 wide tires which would be perfect for a winter set up.

look for someone offloading the base 17" wheels.  Usu cheaper than buying new wheels...

I’ve been trying. People still want 2-300 per wheel for factory take offs!

I looked into Costco too. Kal tire here told me the wheel has to have an offset of 14-25 in order to clear the calliper. It’s hard to find a set tho. Most of which I find are either +44 or +30. I have Nokian studded tires that I’m not willing to part ways with because they are awesome tires. So a 17 inch wheel is a must. I may just bite the bullet and order some aftermarket 17s and say screw the Steelies.

I’m probably going to wait a year or two then get a set of winter wheels/tires depending on how well my BFG’s perform.

I’m sure the inventory will improve as time goes by.

Snow is one thing, but black ice is a whole other can of worms!

I live in a hilly area and 4x4 doesn’t do jack shit when you’re sliding down a hill of shear ice!  Dedicated winter tires make all the difference in that situation!

I tend to avoid steep downhill sections around town on icy days unless I know the city has salted the shit out of those areas!

Bought a set of take offs last year and mounted Michelin Ice-x winter tires. I've always used winter tires and this set up didn't disappoint.

Do you have the new body style 2019?

What year truck did the take offs come from?

2019 RST with 18" OEM aluminum  wheels and sensors. My truck and the take offs were the same year and model.

So how much do you want for those steel wheels that don't fit your truck?

I’m checking the local Craigslist multiple times a day to see if there’s any take off steelies...absolutely nothing out there.

Lol, on a side note, lots and lots of people flogging off those POS Goodyear Wrangler tires!!

Costco Canada has some wheel options listed again for new 2019’s.

https://www.c-wheels.ca/en/fitmentsearch/result/index/?year=2019&make=GMC&model=Sierra+1500&submodel=Elevation

Anyone try them?

Anyone else have any luck with any other Inexpensive aftermarket wheels(steel or alloy) for winter on their trucks?

We went to Costco for new tires for my wife’s Explorer Sport a few months ago(burned through the factory high performance Hankook’s in 40,000 km) and we were quite happy with the price and service.  My wife loved the fact she could do her Costco shopping while they did her tires.
