Here we go again. Got the Superchips Flashpaq today in the mail. It may need to be updated. At least it should be easier than the Rough Country unit

I'm going to try to get it going later today hopefully.

The Superchips Flashpaq F5 is worth it. I tried to run it without downloading programming.
No dice.
So I break out the laptop. Turns out they changed everything about the programming since this unit was packaged in 2018. That made it confusing. The directions didn't match up with what I was seeing on my screen.
Finally got it figured out after about an hour. Got the programming downloaded into the unit. Also had to pay $40 to unlock my ECU. Sad.
Get into the truck unplug my Range and plug it in. The rest was easy.
I set it at the performance level.
20 HP and 18 TQ . 92 octane required.
I also set the 1-2 upshift a little higher rpm just to see if it actually did what it says. It did work. I'm going to go back and fine tune each shift .
It also disabled AFM and set the tire size. The speedometer is a little to fast now. I set the tire size at 36.75 what they actually are. I think I need to set it at 36.50. The odometer says 5.2 miles in 5 real miles.
I took it for a drive and immediately noticed a difference. 1-2 shift was tighter and above 3000-3500 rpm it really woke the 5.3 up. I did a roll from about 30 mph and let it eat. It got up to 85 mph effortlessly.
All in all the truck is way more drivable and more fun to drive.
I'm going to try and get it dialed in today or tomorrow.
Probably the best $475 I've spent on the truck so far. GM is leaving a lot on the table as far as tuning. It's easy to grab a little with this unit.

Sad thing is, those handheld tuners don't really even change that much because they are just pre-built calibrations very specific changes to get a desired outcome.

They can help but still so much could be done if they were able to go in and change things after each specific gear change. Like shift speed/timing, pressures, on-coming clutch pressure presets, torque converter lockup settings.

I knew what I was getting with this unit. I know I'm not getting a Lew tune or similar.
Not sure I wanted to go that deep. I'm not racing anyone.
I adjusted the 1-2 upshift only the next setting over the Superchips default setting and it did tighten that shift up a lot.
It made a difference on everything I adjusted and I barely set anything yet.

After a bunch of math, I ordered a new drop hitch. 13" drop. Hard to find SOB.

6000 lb/600 tongue wt.

My truck ain't towing more than that in it's current state that's a fact. I think it would be struggling with even 5000 lbs unless I regear.

My main trailer I use most is a 6x14 enclosed cargo trailer. 6 ft inside ht. Empty it's 1400. 3500 max wt.

I moved the axle under the leaf springs because it was such a lowrider. Now it's 8 ft tall instead of 7'- 6".

I should be able to tow that all day long.

I was thinking about one of those adjustable hitches but the trailers I tow are the same height. I gave a best offer of $100 and got it.

Here's the hitch.

I think I need to get some braces to stabilize it.

Got a new trailer so I need to do the axle flip( put the axle under the leaf springs instead of on top of them) because my driveway is steep and it would drag bottom if I don't put some boards down. I've done this a few times now for the same reason. It should raise it about 4 1/2 " . I'll take some pics to show you what I do. Here's how it sits now. Looks more level than it is. Pics do that sometimes. [emoji3166]

Saw a stabilizer set up on a lifted the other day at the shop. Guy said it makes a great deal of difference. I didn't crawl under to see how it was attached but looked stout. Should have taken a picture but didn't know I was going to read this post. :)

BTW the Ceramic Wax you sent is amazing. Love it on my black plastic. Tossed my Ultimate black. Again for the millionth time....Thanks.  I owe ya....

That’s awesome! I love my tuner, turned my 6.2 into a beast! I have friends with the advanced tuners needing to bring their lap tops into their trucks and they absolutely HATE them, they wished they used my same SuperChips programmer. I’m sure there are those that love to tinker and over analyze their programming but I LOVE the simplicity of the SuperChips programmers. Congratulations Dieselfan1, enjoy your beast of a truck [emoji6]

I'm not afraid to experiment. :)  I applied Meguiar's Hybrid Ceramic Wax to my grill straight with an old damp microfiber then after a soda buffed it with another that was dry. Doesn't really haze like a conventional wax. Doing the more faded cowl piece today. So far it just looks amazing.

I would love to see some before and after if you took them.

    • I have never seen GM instructions for the other trucks as per the HD with the 6 speed or the half tons but had got the impression that the HD trucks with the 6 speed were not having the same problem that the 10 speed and pan presented. Also video that I have seen of the HD 10 speed with the gas engine starting in 2024 model year showed that it was a real struggle to even make it work when pulling down hard on the exhaust after undoing the exhaust hanger bracket on the side of the transmission as after all there is little room for the pipe to even go down behind the Y joint as it soon would hit a frame cross member. Also that they had tried just like I did with the gasket off and no way was that pan coming out any way they tried to manipulate the pan. From that as well as the local transmission shop talking about the pain in the rear issue, I was not expecting my pan to come out because GM shows it was not even intended to come out without dealing with the exhaust piping.    It would be nice to claim, here's what you do and its easy to remove the pan guaranteed on any HD truck with the gas 10 speed but dollars to donuts the next guy trying what I did would not have the same luck as the exhaust was just manufactured slightly different and be pissed off at my claim that the pan comes out with no issue. Its more of a try and see if your particular truck might work like mine did .... or not !.
    • Sorry I didn't see this until now, but it works on both the 6 speed and 10 speeds, as well as all the half tons too.
    • Hello, I have a 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 that I recently changed both motor mounts on due to the driver's side being blown out. After replacement I seem to have a steady vibration that I can feel in the pedals and the back of the seat. At this point I'm convinced that the aftermarket "Anchor" branded mounts I used are not performing as well as OE, the only real reason I ended up using the mounts in question was because my local dealers were out a few months to get a Driver's side mount. I've tried "Neutralizing" the mounts according to the motor mount TSB published for these truck to no avail. My trans mount is also in great shape and seems to be absorbing vibrations swimmingly. As far as I can tell there is no issues idling, my idle RPM is steady and I've recently put GM plugs and wires on, however, I have not cleaned the throttle body or intake valves. Any one else have a similar experience with aftermarket mounts? Patience certainly is a virtue that I wish I exercised here. Thank you!
    • I still saw people out for runs, on their bikes/motorcylces, jeeps with the doors off driving around here the past 2 days. I guess we are just used to it here haha.   Tasted like a bonfire the last 2 days.
    • The TCM has to be flashed before it can drive.   If you installed it the way it is, it has the OS (operating system/program) from the 2010 truck you got it from. That will not match with the VIN/OS pair that your 2013 truck has.   You can do the full install. Then tow it to a dealership and they can flash the trucks PCM/TCM with the latest program for your VIN.
