I'm all for the guy wanting to mod his truck but the first few posts didn't help him any. No budget, no goals, no desire to search the WORLD WIDE WEB for parts.

Simple things like "silverado supercharger or turbo kits" would have lead to something. silverado "mods", camshafts, exhaust etc etc all would have brought something up. God forbid it took a few hours over the course of a few days to sift through stuff to get a grasp of it.

Cam, I agree with your statement for the most part. I'm not saying we all shouldn't gain knowledge on the machines we have or work on but if you think about it for a sec, perhaps some of these guys or gals have less experience than many other people on here. Perhaps they haven't had the opportunity to gain such experience like some others.

I for one know very little about much of these trucks and cars coming out but can handle myself with the LS blocks and the newer vortec with confidence. I have only had this L83 for a few months but am learning what I can about it for when I can dive in and tune it.

I'm not bustin your chops or anything like that, just trying to share a different perspective. I always look forward to your input on many of these posts. Like many of us, I come on to this forum to get opinions from people that have experience with items on do not.

Some folks are brand new to the Truck game. Or brand new to the Truck modding scene. Some are even new to online forums as a resource. Therefore knowing where to start can be tough. Sure, you can just go on google and search "Performance Truck Parts" or specifically your "year/make/model/engine + performance". The problem there is you don't know what you're going to get or how credible.

We have a lot of Veteran members here whom have done it  to their rides and carry a wealth of knowledge. It was actually a very smart tactic to come in and ask for opinions. I certainly have made 30,000 mistakes with my truck and will certainly voice my opinion for those who want to get more out of their "baby".

If you're not aloud to ask questions what's the point of having a "FORUM". *(a place, meeting, or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged)*

this couldn't be broken down any better

I've claimed I know about airride and hydraulic suspension along with custom metal fabrication.

I guarantee I can school your ass all day with knowledge about geometry and the 1 million possibilities for setups . and yes I did learn most of my shit off a forum that doesn't exist anymore I truly needed and relied on that back in the day. now many builds later I can build my own frames and design every little aspect.

well im pretty much back to the basics when it comes to engine mods. im not looking for everything you know and every little trick ill learn that shit along the way clearly. but thanks to two people on this website they've guided me in the right direction. I thought I had a l85 which was providing no information "you people" act like I didn't try that first lmfao hahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

one other thing how many of these trucks are out there extremely modified and daily driven? not that many if you think about it . all I wanted to know is if it was possible to build a engine NA and everybody freaks out

Of course you can, all it takes is money.  How fast do you want to go$$$

Back in the day and with mostly factory parts the Ford FE series motors could be built with displacements between 332 and 445 CID in one cubic inch increments and in power densities between 0.75 to 1.25 HP/CID on pump gas and without a supercharger. Then if that wasn't enough you looked at the aftermarket.

Well E85 has brought back 100 octane fuel but displacement is hard to come by. Thin wall open deck motors and low deck heights have pistons peeking out the bottom of the cylinder with but a whisper of added stroke. Add the factory control systems now have motors docile as kittens at 1.25 HP/CID NA using compression and camming you would have gone to the aftermarket for then.

There just isn't enough platform nor enough fat in the factory build anymore to build impressive power without twisting the crap out of it or force feeding air.  Oh they will still sell you the parts and make the claims but.....

Your a fabricator, right? English wheel? Spend the money on weight reduction. Start with a RCSB WT1 and loose 1,000 pounds with a blink of an eye. Go from there.

Just imagine GM doing like Ram does. The 6.2 in a RCSB WT1 and a gear. I’ve seen Ram RCs RTs around here. A few years back on Gears Stacy David had a hemi Ram for under 20K. Did a build from there. A GM SS truck would be easy.

F the Ram look at all the brand new 5.0 RCSWB supercharged trucks for sale at various stealerships around the country with 650-700 hp for 10k over sticker with a limited warranty. Bang for the buck nobody is going to beat this.

It’s to bad GM has decided to only sell T1 RCSWB in the middle east even though they come off the assembly line here... I’d love to see what Callaway would do with them? I read some article with a interview with a GM executive & he said something to the effect of we’re looking into releasing them into the North American market based on interest. I ain’t holding my breath...

Dealer tuner trucks are easy to find in my area for a price. Striped V-8 platforms for a starting point was the point. Yes Ford and Ram both do that.

1000 lbs would be worth it I've seen these guys saying they've removed little piece here and there loosing unto 180 pounds lol . thanks ill look into it

thanks for all the help guys I've decided na is way to much money it would be smarter to buy that 40 000$ built motor and trans

but im going to be looking into turbos and superchargers to produce some bigger numbers much easier and affordable

I stand by it every time. Wait till Black Friday. Go onto Whipple's website and purchase a Whipple kit w/programer ($5,500). Spend a weekend installing and BAM you have yourself a completely different animal.

Honestly pistons wont do **** all .. for more power these enginesalready have 11.1 comp.

U want power about 140 more

Do a stage 2 texas speed cam

L86 intake and th

Shorty pipes (long tubes if u intend on the fu cat back)

Cai

And maybe a tru dual cat back

And a tune after its all done. Get an hp tuners unlocked ecu and tcm and they can calibrate ur engine and seriously have real engine power. Some 5.3 can put out over 500 if u have the right combo .... rich holender has a tin of dyno oroven setups .  This engine is a serkus engine already for a stock set up.  #1 thing u need is an unlocked ecu. Pistons are fine unless u plan on a 150 shot other wise forged flpistins hust break the budget.  U can do all that above for under 4 if u shop smart and do most all irself minus the tune.

    • Yes that's right, it's the upgrade that includes the overload spring and all that stuff.   Someday when I'm empty and going by a scale I'm going to stop in and get some weight readings.   Exactly  you should have the ability to change individual settings, in in Canada so I'm driving with kph but then I'm stuck with kpa when I want psi lol
    • You must have that upgraded gvw package which is only available or at least was in 2025 with the diesel engine for the 3/4 ton and that gave the truck physically the larger 12.0 ring gear rear diff and the 3500 rear spring pack. There is a difference in what the diff housing looks like externally as one tell tale and also your truck should have the upper overload spring pack and the frame pads that the pack goes up against.    The pressure the tpms system kicks the alarm in on a stock setting truck, that is a good question and was just from what I recall but I doubt I made any notes on it as I knew for the rear that it was not at all what I was after regardless either. Being that you have a diesel and if running on stock tires the minimum pressure on an empty truck seems to be around 50 psi from hearing of those that have weighted the front axle but the rear axle is very similar in weight to a gas truck and again a near empty truck on the rear could go down to 35 pounds at minimum. However the weigh scale is the proper way to know for sure as a guide.    As to changing the readings on the dash from metric to the US measuring system, oh yes that is done easily but what I was attempting to explain was that I can't pick and choose items I want to have in US and those I still want in the metric system at the same time as its either all or none. For example lets say you drove into Canada and switched your dash over to metric so your speedometer read in km an hour, well then your reading kilopascals on your tpms readout and your wife looks over and says what the hell is that saying in the tpms screen and you say "darned if I know, I think its Chinese" !
    • This is partly why I decided to have switched over to Amsoil SS as a way of hopefully preventing the buildup of the sludge/carbon on the pistons and clogging of the oil control rings and the carbon that would cause the compression rings to stick in their grooves as well as stay cleaner up top of the heads in the valve train in the first place, an oil that has tested better by third party testing over typical shelf oil and also doing my best to run relatively short OCI. However in saying that I don't think there is any way to easily prove the oil I was using prior allowed for a buildup at the OCI I was doing, nor in the other direction to make claims the Amsoil is keeping everything clean either. There really isn't a window into the engine is there to know anything for certain even if oil samples were taken for example that showed still healthy oil being dropped out of the oil pan other than engine tear downs that extensive and expensive testing of oils does to actually visually see what is really going on inside the engine. I wish there was some easy method of seeing what is going on but I don't happen to be aware of that if there is.
    • My truck is a ¾ ton but my placard also says 80 for the rear tires, I think I might have the upgraded suspension to the 3500 series maybe.   I put my air down to 60 and the light was still on, and there was no way I was putting over 60 psi in the rear empty and not towing because I knew the actual number Toyo gave me and I didn't wanna ruin the center of my tires!   And you actually can change it in the settings from metric or is and it will show kph or mph then when you go into your tire settings it will be either psi or kpa, but it would be nice to just change it directly on the tire psi page
