Hey all, brand new to forum so I appreciate your help.  Just got a ‘19 Sierra 3500 6 weeks ago.  Took out factory carpet floormat on drivers side and found carpet and pad completely soaked.  You can hear the water squish when you push down.  No evidence it is coming from roof as headliner, etc. is dry.  Any ideas on where the water could be coming from so I can go into dealer with at least an idea of the problem?  TIA for your help!

Or heater core going bad? I know my Lincoln it left my carpet wet

Heater core should be on passenger side or close to it.

OP when you looked under the carpet was there a body plug or grommet for a wiring harness/parking brake out of place?

lower portion of the windshield could be leaking too.

After owning 3 Avalanches, I'm no stranger to leaks. My '12 Avalanche had leaks in the sunroof, windshield, windshield wiper gasket and door seals..even went through 4 CMHSL that had water entry...gave up after 5 tries and traded to give another the pleasure of being commander of a submarine.

Sunroof? If so could be a blocked drain running down the "A" pillar and sunroof pan overflowing. My leaks never showed in the headliner.  Pull driver's side fuse access cover and see if traces of water running down the "A" pillar inside, indicative of drain pan overflow.

Could be the top door seal channeling water from the roof. Close door on a sheet of paper and see if the seal holds tight.....if paper loosely slips out, could be source of a leak.

Could be a leak in the windshield or windshield wiper access.

Could be a leak in the GPS antenna on the roof, check to see if tight, if it moves likely a source of a leak.

Remove driver's side plastic floor panel securing rug and lift edge of rug. If rug is wet, then the jute fiber backing is soaked and will take a lot of effort to vacuum and blot it up. And you can also check the driver's side electrical wire channel running the length of the vehicle top see if filled with water.....if so drain so connectors don't become corroded and cause gremlins in the future. If standing water is found on the rug surface, check under then seats for water entry to motorized seat and airbag connectors.

Let dealer give it a try.....never did much good with me....seems they look for leaks one at a time.........fix one and another pops up. Might be worth it for you to see if you can find the leak yourself so you can determine if they fixed it......difficult to tell if the jute backing is not completely dried first.

Everything seemed to look correct under the carpet.  The upper edge of carpet didn’t feel as wet at footwell but gravity would explain that even if it was coming down the firewall.

If if it was the heater core I would assume that I would smell some coolant or the water would feel “slippery” which it doesn’t.

I’m thinking I will throw the hose on the roof and see what happens and try to figure if it is coming in from above.

Blot with a piece of white paper towel...... red/pink = coolant leak

Use a hose and try working from the bottom up instead of starting with the roof.

Thomcat, thanks for the advice.  I’ll do some poking around.  I know what you mean with the dealer, I figure I better diagnose the problem to tell them what to fix or I could be chasing this forever.

I sent my 2019 Silverado 2500HD to the dealer last Monday for a ton of error messages (lane assist, trailer assist, airbag, seat belt; basically all the safety related systems were showing off line) showing on the dash. (speedo, tack and all gauges not functioning).

They just called me 3 hours ago and said they found standing water in the passenger kick panel area and in a wiring connector.

They couldn't locate the source for the water leak. They opened up the area and dried out the wiring connector and kick panel area. Tested the truck and reported the truck passed the "water test".

I pick up later this evening.

I will look around the running board, lower section of the door, window seal, door seal and windshield and wiper cowl area, headliner and shark-fin antenna and sunroof for signs of water.

Op. Hope you get yours repaired.

Mine goes to dealer tomorrow morning as well.  Still haven’t figured out where it is coming in from but it rained here all weekend so a little tough to do the hose test on specific areas without flooding the garage.  I’ll let you all know what if anything they figure out.  Thanks for all your suggestions.

Following.  I am changing cloth seats to leather seats in my truck and noticed a little water on driver side down in like a little trough under the door "sill"

    • There are probably a few threads talking about fuel mileage but this one seemed to fit the stats I have seen based on my typical local driven route but with different outcomes based on different seasons/temperatures. I have a few hundred pounds of items that consistently ride on the truck at all times such as a bak flip cover, rubber bed mat, tools and extra fuel so I would be something over 8100 lb without me in the truck. All these examples are based on a 100 mile round trip to a town plus running around town so maybe 110 to 120 miles in total for a trip. Using regular fuel and I assume it always has some ethanol in it but don't know the percentage they blend in. Also speed wise I am going at 62 mph and non aggressive driving although less speed yet if its crappy winter condition roads. I am going by an initial reset of the computer generated fuel use numbers averaged over a couple of thousand miles or so for each weather/season so they may be more optimistic then actual hand calculated numbers. Basically this is painting a picture of doing the same drive but seasonal conditions and temperature being the major variable to the end result. Oh and although I am in Alberta Canada, I am converting it to miles per US gallon so there is no confusion.    So winter time it gets cold here, no real surprise there and the roads can be clear at times but also often have packed rough snow or are are driving through loose snow ( they do a poor job of plowing the highways ) and yes this includes the extra idle engine time due to trying not to freeze ones butt off. 12.7 mpg is what I was getting during the winter months on average.    Then during the spring when it was around the freezing point and the highways are clear of snow, I was getting around 14.25 mpg.   Summer time, I have been getting around 15.15 on average but certainly some of the trips showed quite a bit better fuel mileage, so much depended on how much or little I had driven around town and number of engine restarts after sitting for a while at each location. But stating a best fuel mileage trip to town pretending that is what the truck gets on average is fooling ones self for sure !.      As I said in a different post, I had driven a 645 mile trip over a couple of days stint to a different destination then these other daily to town examples above, and was done during the summer with nice weather and not bucking a head wind, also keeping at 62 mph and its a rolling landscape type highway drive ( this isn't southern Alberta or Saskatchewan flat lands ) Hand calculated fuel mileage in this case though and it came out to 17.65
