Best Prices on Extended Warranties?

Hello,

My 2018 Silverado is at 30k miles and almost out of the factory 36k/3yr warranty. I plan on getting an extended warranty through GM and I was hoping fellow truck owners who have purchased GM's extended warranties could share what sort of price range they bought theirs for. I went to my local dealership and all of the warranties were between $1,900 for a 3yr/36k with a $250 deductible and $2,300 for a 4yr/60k one with a $100 deductible. Do these prices seem reasonable? I plan on shopping around at other dealerships and I have heard I can just call or email out of state dealerships and purchase from them if they have better offers. This is my first time  purchasing a warranty so I want to be sure I get a reasonable price on it. Thank you all in advance for the help!

I bought my 2017 Silverado in Oct of 2019. It had just over 28,000 miles and I bought an extended warranty through the dealer. I really was never big on these, but they talked me into it and now I'm glad that they did. I was able to get what seems to be pretty much the same as a factory bumper to bumper, for just over $2000. It is for 8 years/100,000 miles with a $100 deductible ($50 if I go to this dealer for service).

I was mainly concered about electronics and drivetrain and it covers that and much more. I hope I never need to ise it, but I feel better knowing that I have it.

It is through Nae Nwan, (www.naenwan.com) and shown as Supreme Plus Wrap. I was at first a bit skeptical as to what they covered, but calling them up, they assured me that everything I was concerned about was covered

I don't like GM's extended warranty. They say you can get back 80% of the principal if you don't have any claims on the warranty. That means that if you cash in your warranty on a $500 part you cant get any money back. So basically you have to bank on losing a motor/trans/ECM to make it worthwhile cashing in that warranty. These computer-age trucks are pretty much starting to get the electrical gremlins at that point, a couple more years after that  and you will have major paint issues, frame corrosion if you live in a winter climate. They are on a steep decline after the factory 5yr powertrain warranty is done. Best option is to recycle your down payment by trading the truck in before warranty is out. Unless you drive few miles and keep insanely good care of them, but you're still handcuffed by 'software updates' with these new ones.

Put the cash in an investment account, in 3 or 4 years it's still yours (with interest) and you can blow it all at the casinio.

Give Todd Sutherland a call . Todd works for MacMulkin Chevy Corvette (603) 888-1121, They are in NH. I’m on the Corvette forum a lot and he is highly recommend . I just purchased  the newer GMEPP Platinum Plan 5 year 40,000 mile 0 deductible from him for my wife’s 17 Acadia. I have also purchased same plan from Todd Sutherland but with more years and miles for my 17 Corvette. I received quotes from local dealers by me and another vendor on Corvette Forum Todd beat everyone by a lot I mean hundreds cheaper. Before calling google GMEPP to get a idea which plan you want. Platinum, Silver etc . Each plan covers different things. There are different thing that go into price. Have your VIN And date you bought truck with you when you call. Also call others to compare but I think you will be really happy with his price. Dave

Also with newer GMEPP plans there is a 30 day 1000 mile waiting period before plan kicks in. The 30 days and 1000 miles are add to back end of contract so you DON’T loose any days or mileage. Just keep in mind if your getting close to end of manufacture BTB warranty!

Going by my last experience with a GM  warranty. In my case my last GM warranty  I paid around 1500 for 7 year plan and had a claim for 2300 plus another for 500. When I cashed out plan at trade in time and got 575 cash (check) back with 1 3/4 - 2 years remaining. The warranty Worked out good for me but buying any extended warranty is rolling the dice. For me it’s a peace of mind thing. I agree with comments about electrics best to trade in before BTB warranty ends in you can. I usually keep mine for 4 - 4 1/2 years. I can turn a wrench but I’m not a mechanic so I go extended warranty specially with all the electronics .I have peace of mind and use it as a selling feature or cash out if trading in. There are pros and cons to any extended warranty.
