3rd Brake Light flashing when brakes applied?

Driving home tonight I noticed that my 3rd brake light above the rear glass slider flashes 3-4 times when I initially apply the brake pedal. Anyone know if this is a standard feature? I didn't add any options from the dealer so this is new to me

Ask your dealer if it is something they may have installed, and charged you for it.

The dealership I bought my Silverado from installs the "Pulse" brake light on all their vehicles and charge $400 for it. I was going to have it uninstalled prior to taking ownership, however, with all the distracted driving these days and the warranty I decided to keep it.

No, not a standard feature.  Just another way for dealerships to make some extra $$$.  It can be an annoying feature, but it can also be good at keeping you from getting rear ended.

You can buy the module on ebay for under $10

Agreed, there are numerous third brake light strobe units out there for dirt cheap. Problem is, they may not be legal. Current regulations require brake lights to be steady burning so if you buy your own unit make sure it pulses brighter rather than flashing on and off to avoid a ticket.

As others have said, dealer add-on scam.  I find it annoying to be behind a vehicle that has it.  Fortunately, no Alaska dealers do this, but I saw an SUV with it the other day.  Must have come up from the Lower 48 or someone installed it themselves.
