multi pro tailgate

How do you like your new multi pro tail gate . Do you think its much heaver than a reg. one. I have a 2020 3500 SLT on the way . Just curious.

With all the extra hardware and moving parts, I'm sure it weighs more than a traditional tailgate.  My sales guy told me the additional weight on the MultiPro is why the GMC only has the automatic down feature, while the Chevy models (with less weight) have automatic down and up.

 

Regardless, GM designers have sprung it nicely, and it doesn't feel like it weighs anything when opening/closing.  Before I had the truck, I thought the fancy tailgate was just a gimmick.  It turns out to be quite useful in a few situations, but I'm not sure I would go with GMC just because of the additional utility of the tailgate.

I also thought it was a gimmick. But use it frequently. Makes many duties easier.

Great for washing and detailing too! Easy access to my bed cross-box where I keep my towing gear. Never keep my receiver hitch in when not in use, however there is great aftermarket options coming out.

The only thing I found wonky with it is when lifting it back up when the step is down. Try to fold the step up and the tailgate lifts with it. Try to fold tailgate up first and the damn step is in the way....

I love the multi-pro! Closing it is a little awkward at first but not bad when you get the hang of it. I close the main gate first by lifting from one side or the other. I use it almost every time I am in the bed.

 

Only issue I have found was when I hauled a couch that prevented the tail gate from closeing but but wasnt long enough to put any weight on the tailgate. This casued the tailgate to bounce around when hitting any small bump at all. I had to put a piece of plywood under the couch that extended on to the gate to keep it from bouncing.
