Leak from CV axle ID Seal?

Good evening,

i was wondering if someone can help me identify this seal. It’s leaking from where the CV axle housing mates to the different housing? I believe? This is on the passenger side of a 2005 Silverado. It is an 8.25 axle if that helps. Thanks in advance.

They are just called axle seals.

That is the part number, you can cross that and get seals from NAPA as well. Super common leak on these trucks. The passenger side is more involved than the drivers side. I'd drop the front diff out of the truck and do both at the same time. It is way easier to do the passenger side when it's out.

Thank you so much. I’ll try and find a breakdown of it. I don’t have a shop. I’ll youtube it I suppose. I read somewhere else the passenger side was more in depth.(it is the passenger side). Would it be just a matter of changing seals or are there parts I should have on hand to swap out as well?

That's pretty much it I think. I don't remember if there is a gasket between the axle tube and the front diff housing or if that is just sealant there. You have to take that apart for the passenger side.

I'd have to find a video of it to double check.

Of the two, the passenger side (IMHO) is easier, in that you can replace it without dropping the diff, and it disassembles in a deterministic manner (you unbolt it, remove some clip, and it comes apart).

The driver's side seal, you have to drop the diff, and then you have to beat on the edge of the driveshaft (hitting it outwards) and hope that the clip holding it in will bounce out of it's groove and allow the driveshaft to come out.  It doesn't always do that, and then you get to cut off the end of the axle, and then disassemble the diff to get the remaining stub out...
