North 54001 Series - Full Facepiece Mask Respirator

During the chemical years of my Oil/Gas/Chemical life I lived and worked like a sled dog in one of these 8 to 12 hours a day, five to seven days a week in most inhospitable climates for a decade. These a multiples harder to draw through than a hanky and there is no supplied oxygen. All your air is filtered for a specific contaminate. I'm 67 and smoked for 35 of those years. You MUST qualify to wear one in a hazardous atmosphere and O2 levels are NOT one of the test requirements. Seal is. There were occasions were during very physical duration's I wore an oximeter but never dipped below 98%. Same as not wearing anything.

There a dozens of trades where this type of filter is used when a dust mask is not going to be safe enough and yet ambient oxygen is normal. Tens of thousands of people wear one every day.

I've never seen a more candy bunch in my life.

what does that have to do with anything??? last time i checked doctors aren't the healthiest people.  go sit in the lunch room  at a hospital when they're on break.. most of them are smoking cigarets and popin pills to handle stress..

Seriously, that's your reply.

I'm slow sometimes but I think I'm catching on that this thread is NOT educational. It is NOT informative. It is NOT even entertaining anymore.

What it is, is BS.

You whine this much over wearing a seat belt? Lap bar at the amusement park? Helmet or hard hat. Safety shoes? Eye protection?

Thanks Grumpy. We have a lot in common. I'm soon to be 67. Smoked about 35 years like a dumb ass.

I have had my lungs checked out thoroughly and my doc says you're a lucky guy. Normal condition of a non smoker for my age.

Man up woosies.

I was an industrial spray painter and wore a respirator. Long weeks for over 60 hours. I agree you can tell it's there. In my neck of the woods it's over 9 K feet wearing a mask.

Reminds me of when I was painting offices for a living. The biggest woosies I ever seen. Whined about paint and drywall mud smelling. Really pissed the wife of when I meet her and told her office workers are woosies.

I worked nights a lot because of the whining.

Wearing a mask isn't the end of the world.

I interviewed for a plant managers job once down in Macon Georgia. A plastics recycle plant. Guys on the the shop floor bucketing raw materials on a floor that was 115 F and wringing wet with no fans wearing full face respirators for minimum wage and working 12 hour shifts. There's something to complain about. The lowest rung of the employment ladder does to live what the middle class whines over as a restriction of freedom. Who insisted these low level guys wear that stuff? The whiners. I did not take that job. I wouldn't do that to a dog.

I turned down a job(was more money) that required you to paint the inside of  big tanks with epoxy paint. No woosies there.

I get it but please keep contributing.  Karnut has done a fine job of keeping the coals burning and even he's softened in his views since March, imo!  ?

I read everything that there is to read watch everything there is to watch. The conclusion is nobody knows anything yet about this bug. I did learn more about people. Some people get down right ugly if you don’t agree with them. And Oh Yea. Everything is political. CNN thinks Trump is wrong about everything. Fox News has the highest ratings in prime time period. I still believe herd immunity is the only way. Why? Because that’s what worked before. Hydroxychloroquine works, no it doesn’t. Yes it does, no it doesn’t. Well it’s looking like it does. Not if you watch CNN. Yea, well I still think it’s entertaining.

Masks are effective in preventing the spread of this virus especially when used properly.  Comments like "Take the mask off" are counterproductive.  Justifying "no mask" use by claiming reduced oxygen levels for healthy individuals is simple ignorance.   Non-compliance to accepted preventative strategies results in unnecessary illness and death.  Waiting for an election as a cure is absolutely bizarre!  The constant banter about accuracy of numbers and political party bashing is also not proving useful in combating the virus.  I do understand that this thread is fueled by provocative statements and it makes us all think about what we are doing.   I always prefer to err on the side of caution and I ask that you do the same.  Wearing a proper fitting non-surgical mask whenever social distancing (at least 6') may be unavoidable requires extremely little effort.  If you are generally healthy and you find mask wearing uncomfortable then shop for a better fit. I tried several types and brands and found the ones sold at Costco to be the most comfortable and least expensive!

i will have to run a blood oxygen test tommorrow while working, i do a bit of laybor so it should be interesting to see what my finger sensor will yield in terms of % in the blood

I don't have allegiance to the US president or watch CNN/FOX  but I appreciate the information they provide has a significant impact on your opinions.  There is plenty of less biased global information on the coronavirus that supports taking precautionary steps that are effective in slowing the spread of this virus.  You do practice social distancing, wear a mask when needed and avoid unsafe venues.  I respect you for taking these steps despite your beliefs as to the seriousness of this threat.  I also believe there is a lot we don't know about this virus which informs me that we should be even more diligent in doing what we know to reduce the spread.

I think the original idea of two weeks to slow the spread was a great idea. We don’t want to overwhelm the hospitals. I think it gave rise to dictatorship in some blue states. I think that’s been well documented. Now it’s gotten out of hand. The sky is falling hysteria is trying to get a foothold. I still don’t know anyone who’s gotten it. I have teachers, barbers, real estate agents, equipment dealer- repair shop family members. They don’t either. I believe it’s out there, I take precautions. I’m at my favorite casino on my way to my vacation condo in Myrtle beach. We’re having our usual August gathering with my father in-law. I’m a little nervous for him. We missed the May visit. He wanted us to come regardless. A 89 year old Sergeant Major. He’s seen it all. He wants to see his family. So we’ll be spread out across three condos and visit him outside. He thinks we’re sissy’s. His attitude is if it’s his time he’s ready. About the same attitude as most of the blue hairs I run into at the casinos I visit. Seems to be the theme in my area. I take precautions, not fear.

Thank you for the kind words. Your are an example of rationality and decent manors.

Contrary to the idea that I "get ugly when disagreed with" I don't mind it at all. What I do mind it irrational deportment.

There is nothing new about human interaction with viruses. But you can't tell from the rhetoric of some. As if humanity woke this morning  and is experiencing a virus for the first time. I get ugly when people disagree with things like....oh I don't know....gravity perhaps? Or children can not infect adults; is not a disagreement with me, it's a disagreement with the truth. It's absurd and to argue it is irrational. Ditto masks. No matter how many Pod Cast you hear it on.

This tread is comprised of ideas that people NEED/WANT to be true not what is true. People don't WANT to wear a mask so they invent, against all accurate knowing, reasons not to.

Railing against the truth because everyone knows baseball for my 12 year old is more important than his life and the lives of the people he is on contact with. It's like slapping a tiger and expecting not to get bit. Worse, it's trying to convince others the tiger can't bite. What rubbish.

Yes. I won't sanction stupidity and I certainly will not agree with mindless chatter promoting ignorance for the sake of some perception about myself or promotion of illogical behavior.  If that makes me disagreeable then let it be so. But if they hang that label on me then don't act like a five year old when I infer a village is missing it's idiot when they are acting like one.

It's not productive, like the half hour I wasted on this reply. Now back to waxing the wife's SUV. Also not productive

I would be frustrated if I was told that this was only going to take two weeks to fix!  I knew that contact could take two weeks to show symptoms but we were always aware that the threat would be with us for awhile.  It was also very evident that we needed to work together to have an impact on the spread.  Fortunately, the steps I have taken have been explained in a logical manner  and appeal to my common sense.   Managing a health crisis/emergency can bolster or hurt a politicians popularity but the democratic process should prevent dictatorship worries.   FWIW  Over the years I've said goodbye to all of my "Sergeant-majors".   Their bravado about dying is no different than most.  They don't want to be a burden but will be happy to stick around as long as they're loved!  Enjoy your time with your father-in-law and wear a mask.  Be sure to explain that your wearing one to protect him from you!  As an aside, I remember picking up an 88 year old friend for a Doctors appointment and I could tell she felt a little insulted that I came wearing a mask.  When I explained that it was for her,  I'm certain a tear could be seen.

My 2 cents.

In my opinion, based on observations, data and information.  This bug is a Bio Weapon, but not just a Bio Weapon to kill us all.  Is a Binary Bio Weapon.  Needs a "Part B" to make it work, if you do not get that part and if you have good health, is like a cold/flu.

For what I have been reading, is laced with SARS and HIV.  When is presented to the body, depending how attaches it to the cells to replicate itself, the body launches an attack to kill the bug.  The body overreacts and pretty much drowns itself in mucus.  Now, if you take lots of Vitamin C, take a lot of sun (Vitamin D) along with Zinc, your body will shake this bug out.

The Flu Shots, have compounds to "enrage" your immune system, so do not take any stupid ass vaccinations and eat healthy.  Ditch all junk foods, sugars, corn syrups and such, you will see how not even allergies get you.

As far masks... what load of crap... the analogy is, wearing a Mosquito Net on your face in a Dust Storm.  I wear none, period, no question asked.  The Virus floating in the air enters your eyes and the few wearing the mask bellow the nose, enter through the nose... so the damage is done.  The Mouth Diaper is a total waste of time.

What that I fear the most, are the citizens squealing like pigs ratting you out like delusional "Karens".  They are so misserable eating propaganda and jealous of your freedon, they have to bring you down to their misserable shît hole of status they have.

I'm inclined to think this is overpriced for the product . ?  However, I don't doubt that your experiences and influences cause you to hold such beliefs.  I ask that you research outside of your current sources and see why many don't hold such fears of vaccinations or profess sinister origins of this particular virus. You are correct that improper wearing of masks minimizes effectiveness but many people more informed than you and me attest to the benefits of proper mask usage.  They don't hurt and it feels good to be doing something to possibly contribute to fighting this pandemic.  Give one a try.  They are effortless for most of us to wear.   Participating in an effort to slow the spread certainly is more useful than  trying to instill fear and despair in others.

    • Still looks like a rivet to me in the pics, I don't see a nut and none of the pics show the head of the screw. But if you says so.....
    • Thanks for all the help so far!   I did try right from 2026 right down to 2021, and only from 2023 down lets me select the option for tire psi change, but I get the vehicle not supported error!   I'll definitely try it under Chevrolet after work today, and I'll get the sensor number from gm for my truck tire sensors. And I'll let you know if it works for me under Chevrolet!   And if that doesn't work, I'm going to guess that what @Atlas said about maybe I have a different body control module could be true!
    • From where I'm sitting this sounds like a compatibility problem. I'm assuming the 2007 was a 900-series truck, and not an 800-series (they were sold side-by-side in dealerships that model year), since it starts and runs.   This is why I HATE post-2006 vehicles. Everything becomes a huge problem when you try to keep the thing running for longer than the manufacturer has designed it to.    I can't remember when Global-A architecture started - either '10 or '11. For your sake, you had better hope it's '11, or you're going to be spending some BIG money to correct this cluster-eff. That's something you need to find out before doing anything else. You may have several computers bricked ... but the fact that it runs tells me you MIGHT be ok here.     EDIT: Just did a quick refresher. You're screwed. This is Global-A. The 2 systems are NOT compatible in the slightest. Once you get the correct engine in there that IS compatible, you're going to need to see how many computers are locked. Absolute NIGHTMARE to straighten out, too. Your buddy might be better off cutting his losses and finding something else.   Welcome to post-2006 vehicle electronics. This is why I quit the industry, and drive nothing built after 1994. This stuff takes all the fun out of wrenching!

    • True, hard to say what differences there may or may not be between Chev and GM as well as a production year or mid year part change either.    I just found it odd that under the Sierra choice on the Autel that many of the last few years of production year did not include the choice of changing the tire pressure but if that is an Autel thing or a GM thing as to why the choices were not there. Knowing what tpms sensors are on the truck should give some guidance into which choices on the tool even make sense to try as I wouldn't give up just yet with the tool but I guess he will see what if anything he comes up with if he finds out a bit more info and tries a few more things on the Autel.
