Just wondering how many of you actually like the adaptive cruise control.  I personally do not, although to be fair, I have not tried it in a silverado/sierra, only in a semi truck.   For anyone that has it, can it be shut off or are you stuck with it all the time?  If it's always on I believe this is something that would keep me from getting anything with it

I do not like it either. My AT4 has it and yes it can be turned off as mine is.

I have had it in a couple vehicles. Hate it. Tried it a few times and never used it again. Found myself cruising well below in the left lane because the person in front if me was. Never really noticed the gain or slowing in the my speed. I would much rather be more involved with my driving, not the car doing it for me.

I loved it on the wifes explorer, also on her Jeep SRT8, GM uses a different system and it's not as reliable. Mine will not work if theres any dirt on the camera while the Ford will work in a snow storm.

I only find it useful on single lane highways, for people in big cities with multiple lanes highways probably wouldn't use it as I rarely ever do on 2 or more lanes.

I only got it as it came with the pkg for auto hi beams, on my last truck I was able to get auto hi beams and rain sensing wipers without adaptive cruise, now those 2 I use exclusively. I also wanted to bed view camera which was a part of the tech pkg. 3d8651fbb064ad5d2b2fd149e049156b.jpg

I like it for long road trips.  I am glad that it can be turned off for times that standard cruise is preferred

Kinda wish my truck had it but I was a year too early. Seemed to work real well in the Terrain I had as a loaner, and easily reverted to normal cruise control.

Wife's Acadia has it.

It can be operated as adaptive cruise or as reqular cruise.

I can be set for 3 different following spacings (it's base on time, rather than distance, so for same setting spacing will increase as speed increases)

I find that just like regular cruise, there are times I override it by putting it on 'pause'.

We haven't had it too long, but so far we find it's most useful in 2-lane situations where it's busy, traffic speed varies, and pass opportunities are rare enough that speed changes are forced.  With regular cruise I'd be frequently bumping the cruise set speed up and down to match.  Adaptive takes care of it.

In lighter traffic, or on 4 lane situations where lane change and passing is readily available I find that it often waits longer than I'd like to slow down and then has to apply the brakes more aggressively than I'd like.  Solution (sometimes, but especially if it appears the vehicle ahead is paying attention to traffic) is to pause it earlier and coast down, same as if running regular cruise, then touch resume when traffic clears.

Overall, I find that I'm adjusting set speed up/down and pausing/resetting it less when using the adaptive cruise.

If I was buying a 1500 today, it would have adaptive cruise.

It''s not currently available on the HD's.

I didn’t like it on other vehicles I drove in the past, I bought an Audi Q7 and once I got used to it I loved it, but it took awhile to figure out how to use it to work for you, there’s an art to it. I do not miss it on my 19 HC but I wouldn’t mind having it again, I wonder how well it works in comparison to German technology.

I love it!  Yes, it’s easy to disengage to normal CC.

I definitely like the bed camera,  I didn't even know that was an option

Thanks to all for the input,  knowing that it can be shut off makes a big difference to me.  As I said in the original post the only thing I ever had it in is a semi.  It sucks for that application,  it works so smooth that you don't notice that its slowing down until someone blows your doors off,  and if you know big trucks, well, you know how long it can take to get back up to speed, even worse if your driving a restricted truck
