Have you done the front and rear diff recently?

No problems at all.  Just curious but when you do drain it let us know how it looked.

I just found this forum today, coincidentally I changed my transfer case fluid the other day. 2002 z71 Silverado with 215,000 miles. I’m not sure if it had ever been changed, maybe one Other time since I am the second owner. Oil looked horrific. Black and tons of fine metal shavings. Everything still works just fine 4x4 wise, however I think I may be a victim of “pump rub” so I will be dropping my case soon and assessing/fixing that.

Amsoil makes the worst diesel motor oil and for a transmission it adds nothing over any other synthetic lubricant. For the Allison transmission I use TranSynd which has twice the life of the GM product.

Just changed my transfer case today.  It's been about 80k since it was last changed.  The stuff that came out looked like it used to be blue.  I put the Amsoil recommended fluid for the NVG246.  Amsoil has never let me down so far.  I put in in everything.

If you are interested.  AMSOIL's ATF fluid is recommended for your transfer case.  Depending on what T case you have it takes 4 or 4.4 pints.  Basically 2qts to just over 2qts.

That bag design is the best thing ever, I buy those for all my vehicles and you can get it in everywhere no pumps wicked.

Agreed.  I've been using the bags for a while now.  Best invention in a long time for dispensing the fluids.  It's great for gear oil too.  Just did my son's transmission filter and new fluid today.  Between the transfer case and his transmission, I've gone through more than half of the case I bought.  When I do my daughter's transmission, I'll use up the rest.

I don't have a diesel so I don't use the diesel oil, can you elaborate on why you don't like it?  You are the only person I've ever heard say anything bad about it, so I'm curious about your reasoning.

2000 Sierra SLT.  I still have it.  Just about to roll 250k.  The stock 5.3 is on a stand in the garage.  A 2001 6.0 lives under the hood now.
