Upon startup this morning and yesterday and letting  the truck warm up I noticed a off sequence ticking/tapping sound.  I know there is a TSB for lifters so I did the same thing again morning to check.  The noise is still there.  I revved the engine gradually taking it up to 2000 RPM and the noise disappeared.  No DTCs according to my OBD scanner.  See video.  The sound is most prominent from the driver side wheel well.

Do I have an issue or am I just paranoid?  I have a road trip coming up from PA to FL in September and don't want to be stuck on the road.

I can't tell if its injector noise or lifter tap.  Though the dealership will assuredly tell you it's normal, I would take it in just to have it checked so you have documentation of it if anything happens in the future.

Thanks.  That's exactly what they said.  It's normal and won't to anything to investigate further.  Even my GF noticed it when I pointed out the noise...And she doesn't know anything about engines.

I guess I'll just wait until it gets worse/louder or starts doing it on acceleration.  A that point I may just trade it in for a Duramax.  I really don't trust any of these low grade techs tearing into my engine.  When they repaired the oil cooler connector leak they topped off the oil and it was overfilled by at least 2.5 quarts.

Sounds like my wife's Verano.  My LD isn't quite so obnoxious.  Direct injection is noisy, especially on start up.  Mention it at the dealership the next time you're there. Under warranty, you've got nothing to lose.

Thank you.  Interesting and good read.  It's not happening on acceleration or when the engine has warmed up and driven a while.  Also got an OBD2 scanner and it's not throwing any code.

Guess I'm just ultra sensitive after my oil leak experience and reading all the troubleshooting posts.

I have a 2020 Trailboss with the 6.2L. I've watched a few of these threads and finally decided to test my own vehicle. Upon startup when cold (outside temp was 68 degrees) that engine clanks and pings in a way that is scary sounding. For 3-5 minutes I actually thought for sure the motor would come apart when towing my trailer home and then suddenly it was gone. When we hit the road and I had to stop I let the motor idle for about 10 minutes while stopped and never heard it again. Very interesting, but certainly a scary noise to hear for a few moments!

And here I though Amsoil cured all ailments?
