does anyone know if the left or right section of the 3 part rear window can be replaced individually? 2 dealerships say yes and to call a windshield repair place, the repair place says they have to order the entire 3panel window!

Get the parts diagram from the Dealer's parts department and it should show three different part numbers or one for the whole unit, then you will know for sure and can share it with the glass company. Good luck.

This just happened this morning for me. Same thing. 2019 Silverado LTZ passenger side rear. Driving with temperature about 40 degree F in southern NH. I had an issue a couple months ago with sputtering and arcing sound with rear defrost energized. It was fixed under a "service bulletin". Now this today.

Thank you for reporting your rear window explosion. This may make an easier case to get my window covered under warranty. I have just 28000 miles on it.

We have a 2021 GMC Sierra Denali. The drivers side passenger side window shattered for no known reason. It only has 2300 miles on it. I was told GMC will not cover this!!! You spend this much money on a truck and they don't stand behind their product is ridiculous!!

You are assuming it's their fault.

Just another 1st post troll. I don't believe a lot of 1st post things like this. I could but won't go to Ford and Ram etc forums and join just to say I got issues too just to create a big panic and worry to bash the product.

I have a 2017 GMC Sierra SLT with rear power slider and defrost. Yesterday was very cold here in Southern Ontario. Remote started the truck before leaving work. Three to four minutes later I got in the truck and was preparing to leave work (hadn't moved yet) when I heard a loud pop. Rear window, left panel was shattered into a thousand pieces. Truck wasn't moving, no structures above and no one in sight. Only thing I could come up with is that the rear window defroster comes on automatically when remote starting in cold weather. With the outside air temp being -12C and the defroster warming up the window the temperature difference caused uneven expansion of the glass and pop goes the weasel! Price tag to replace the window is $1,000. Thank goodness insurance is looking after most of the bill. If this is an issue with these trucks GM should be issuing a recall although highly unlikely they would admit to a defective defroster.

I just experienced my back window shattering while I was driving down the road . A loud bang and window shattered . 2021 Chev Silverado

Hi. I had a kenworth passenger  window shatter for no reason just sitting there. After much searching. I found that due to the high pressure used to manufacture  tempered safety  glass  its not unusual. It can shatter at any time. Now add to the fact that it is being made thinner and lighter in modern vehicles.  Plus cost concerns of course.  It does happen.

2024 Silverado Z71 with power sliding rear window. I was outside getting the mail (truck is parked in the driveway; no one drove by, and no other neighbors were outside). I thought I heard someone drop a bottle, but it was my rear drivers side window shattering. I don't know if it matters but we live in Texas and are just now reaching 90+ temps. I've only had this truck about a month, so it only has roughly 400 miles on it.

Called the service center at the dealership, the kid said he has never heard of that happening before and that his department manager wasn't there, so take pictures...that was it! It was still making cracking sounds when I went to take pictures. Mine lost all the glass only on the corners of the window. I don't care at this point if it's warranty or not, I just wanted one ordered so it can be fixed!
