I have the same issue on my 2020 SLT. Get the service ESC, service parking brake, steering assist limited messages across the dash with the service engine light.  Also get a cylinder 8 misfire code.  Bought the truck 3 months ago problems started around 1500 miles going back to the shop for the 3rd time.  First time they replaced the fuel injector on 8th cylinder. Second time pretty much replaced everything to do with the 8th cylinder while they had the engine opened up.  Got the truck back and 3 days later same problem. Disappointing to have to bring a brand new truck back already.  Been in the shop a total of 17 days so far.  We will see what the next visit adds.  Pretty sure I'm going to be pursuing lemon law soon.

After over 40 days without my truck, it's supposedly fixed and ready for pickup. They replaced several wire harnesses. The one that fixed it was from TCM to ECM. Supposedly. In the meantime, I found a near-mint, but high-mileage, bone-stock, never-tuned/modified, 2004 Ram 2500 5.9L Cummins with the 6-speed. Owned by two different old guys that know each other, never towed anything heavier than a drift boat (has never had a hitch mounted in the bed, so I believe that's probably true). I'm selling the Chevy if it's actually fixed. I've lost confidence. I will miss that heated steering wheel though - that was real nice in Montana.

You're a smart man.  GM trucks don't like the cold weather.  You think you have electrical issues now, just wait till the temps really drop.

I have been having the exact same issues!! My 2019 RST 5.3 V8 has now been in the shop twice for the same issue. I don’t want to buy another vehicle but it seems like I have no choice. My truck has 48000 miles on it. We have a lemon law here in NC. I may see what can be done under those statutes.

I have a 2019 I brought used with 96,000 miles on it

2 days ago I was driving and I heard something sounded like it broke loose somewhere. I have traction control light on service ESC, service parking brake and it’s missing on cylinder 5 with a rattling and  tapping noise with low power. Has anyone experienced this same?

I also have a 2019 Silverado RST 5.3L with 60,123 miles on it.  Last week I was driving home multiple errors popped up (service esc, service parking brake, check engine, etc.), engine has a ticking noise (rocker/lifter) and is missing and down on power.  I am 123 miles out of warranty.  GM has graciously offered to pick up the first 25 miles of towing, so I'm on the hook for a $5-7K repair bills, $11K if it wiped the cam.  123 miles - unbelievable.   With the widespread lifter failure inherent with these engines and the cost of repairs, I am not surprised that GM did not issue a recall.  I have owned, built or raced nothing but GM in my lifetime, and I will never buy or own another one.  Utterly disgusted with GM.

Does anyone know of a reliable fix or retrofit to replace the DFM lifter setup?  Thanks for any help!!

My 2019 Trail Boss is having these same symptoms.  It’s been on and off for the last year but would clear up for several months at a time.  In March, it completely lost it and now does this every other time I drive it.  It has been in and out of the shop for the past 6 weeks!  Chevy Dealership where I live is 3-4 weeks out from being able to diagnose it and you have to leave the truck there the whole time!  The only code it’s been saving is a cylinder 4 misfire.  They visually inspected the lifters operating correctly.  I bought it used with 70k miles and it has the 100k extended power train warranty.  I’m traveling to the area where I bought the truck and would like to see if I can convince the dealership to go ahead with lifter replacements.  Anyone have any specific verbiage or situations they were able to tell the dealership to get them to move forward with the lifters?

I don't want to speculate, but the misfire could be a couple of things.  Given how intermittent the problem is, the most obvious would be either the lifter or the oil control solenoid valve.  A visual inspection would not identify either of these unless the lifter spring was permanently collapsed.  However, it could also be spark related with wiring, coil, spark plug and spark plug wire. But, this type of problem should be fairly consistent, unless you have something like an intermittent grounding issue.  It could be fuel related, such as an intermittent injector issue (stuck/power/debris).  Given the inherent lifter-related defects with these engines, I would start there.

UPDATE:  I ended up having the truck towed to a dealer shop about 50 miles away.  I called GM roadside and my file had no record of customer care authorizing anything with the tow and they wanted $379 to take it to the dealer, citing it was out of warranty.  I called my insurance company and, in contrast to GM, they helped out.

I was just notified by the service department that #5 cylinder had a bent pushrod and due to lifter failure.  It also wiped the cam and scattered shrapnel throughout the motor.  In the end, new engine.  The dealer has gone back to GM to see if they will cover it under the power train warranty.  Given the widespread history of this failure with these engines, I certainly hope they will do the right thing.

The dealership (Chapman Payson, AZ) I went to was very helpful, as was their regional manager.  GM picked up 90% of the engine swap and I ended up with one of GMs reman 5.3.  GM customer care was just about useless and provided nothing but empty promises.  My recommendation if you have lifter issues is find a dealership that is willing to help you.

    • There are probably a few threads talking about fuel mileage but this one seemed to fit the stats I have seen based on my typical local driven route but with different outcomes based on different seasons/temperatures. I have a few hundred pounds of items that consistently ride on the truck at all times such as a bak flip cover, rubber bed mat, tools and extra fuel so I would be something over 8100 lb without me in the truck. All these examples are based on a 100 mile round trip to a town plus running around town so maybe 110 to 120 miles in total for a trip. Using regular fuel and I assume it always has some ethanol in it but don't know the percentage they blend in. Also speed wise I am going at 62 mph and non aggressive driving although less speed yet if its crappy winter condition roads. I am going by an initial reset of the computer generated fuel use numbers averaged over a couple of thousand miles or so for each weather/season so they may be more optimistic then actual hand calculated numbers. Basically this is painting a picture of doing the same drive but seasonal conditions and temperature being the major variable to the end result. Oh and although I am in Alberta Canada, I am converting it to miles per US gallon so there is no confusion.    So winter time it gets cold here, no real surprise there and the roads can be clear at times but also often have packed rough snow or are are driving through loose snow ( they do a poor job of plowing the highways ) and yes this includes the extra idle engine time due to trying not to freeze ones butt off. 12.7 mpg is what I was getting during the winter months on average.    Then during the spring when it was around the freezing point and the highways are clear of snow, I was getting around 14.25 mpg.   Summer time, I have been getting around 15.15 on average but certainly some of the trips showed quite a bit better fuel mileage, so much depended on how much or little I had driven around town and number of engine restarts after sitting for a while at each location. But stating a best fuel mileage trip to town pretending that is what the truck gets on average is fooling ones self for sure !.      As I said in a different post, I had driven a 645 mile trip over a couple of days stint to a different destination then these other daily to town examples above, and was done during the summer with nice weather and not bucking a head wind, also keeping at 62 mph and its a rolling landscape type highway drive ( this isn't southern Alberta or Saskatchewan flat lands ) Hand calculated fuel mileage in this case though and it came out to 17.65
