Just bought my 2021 Silverado wt three weeks ago. Had oil gard done on it one week ago. Went to a self serve car wash this weekend and while cleaning the wheel well the hose wand removed a large chunk of the frames wax coating.  The truck doesn't even have 1300 kms on it yet.  I didn't even spray the frame directly as I didn't want to remove any of the rust proofing.

I sent the pics to the sales guy, he said he would show them to his manager and see what they will do.  He replied and said they would touch it up with rust proofing spray.

If they think just spraying some rust proof on a brand new truck with less than 1300 kms on it and think I will be satisfied they have another thing coming.

I have read some posts where people said the dealer completely removed all the wax and put on new undercoating.

How did your dealer handle this situation for you and what is your advice for me.

What else do you think they are going to do?

Remove the bed, exhaust etc etc and re-do the whole thing?? You know that's not going to happen. They will re-coat the area's and send you on your way.

Everyone knows the wax coating is garbage, it wipes off with a finger it's that terrible.

Dunno guy, that's why I'm asking for people's experiences with this

From the looks of it, the metal looks clean.  Meaning it wasn’t a floppy pierce of wax already peeling off for a while and rusting underneath.

I’d say just get them to give you the touch up wax and cover that area again.

I know there were guys on here who had their whole frame re-done and it was ok.  But me personally, I would not want the dealer to strip the frame.  I’d be too worried about the gremlins they would create putting it back together.  But that’s me.  Not saying you should or shouldn’t worry about that.

I already had the wax fall off the spots on the frame where the lift pads rest.  Crawl under yours and have a look.  I just quickly sprayed it with my choice of rust inhibitor.  Didn’t bother getting the wax.  Every time they put it on the lift with pads, you’ll lose some wax.

I missed the part where you said you had Oil Gard done on it.  I would be careful with that.  The rustproofing oils will soften the wax making it much more likely for the wax to simply slide right off.  There are even stories of Fluid Film eating away at some peoples' wax as well.  I use an oil based rust inhibitor as well, I go light and easy on the frame itself but a healthy coat on everything else that's not the exhaust, belts, rubber, etc.

I would really crawl underneath now and take a look to see if any more wax have slid off.

There is a Daubert product in spray cans for repairing the wax coating.

Don't be to hard on the dealer if you've had an aftermarket product applied.....
