I bought a used 2017 Sierra 1500 Denali and the first time filling the gas tank was a real pain. The pump kept clicking off every few seconds. It will only take gas on the very first click if I turn the nozzle to the 3:00 position. I looked underneath to see if the filler hose was collapsed, but it looks fine. Could this be a vent issue? Anyone else have this issue with their truck?

Thanks

My entire tank got replaced under warranty due to this issue.

I’d be looking into replacing the vent valve.
Also fuel tank pressure sensor is located between cab and bed-can get contaminated and not send signal fast enough to open vent valve

My 2016 CCSB has had this issue as well, seems to only happen in winter. Glad its not just me but my fuel tank was missing a bolt at the bottom where the fuel hose meets the bedside under the fuel door. Good to know I can warranty that out

I have seen posts about the syphon blocker gets turned sideways in the filler neck and blocks the flow.

Ok, so the dealer could not duplicate my issue when they filled the tank on a 47 degree day. I left the dealer on a 32 degree morning and went straight to the gas station. It clicked off 4 or 5 times in a minute on the slowest setting. If I rotate the gas nozzle to the :15 or:20 past the hour position it will take the fuel at full speed. So temperature and nozzle position affect it. Any ideas based on this info?   Thanks

I had the same issue last year. The pump would constantly shut off the closer I got to “Full” and couldn’t fill past about 3/4 of a tank. They replaced my solenoid and evap canister under warranty. Been fine ever since. My last fill up the pump clicked off, my fuel gauge read almost full and the MyGMC app was showing 92% full. About 20 minutes later the fuel gauge moved to full and the MyGMC app was showing FULL.

Wonder if it’s an outside temp thing. It was in the mid 20’s at the time.

Almost every time mine will click off before a gallon gets pumped. Then after that it usually takes gas just fine.

evap canister and solenoid. if you "top" off after pump kicks off gas get in the canister and clogs up the filter
