Trade value for 2020 6.2 RST?

Yeah, it really is a risk when you've had an issue-free vehicle, right? You never know when you're going to upgrade into one with a lot of issues. ? 

 

There are a few dealers who are pricing the AT4s pretty well this month, with the GMC $5K cash allowance + dealer discounts. I know Laura in St. Louis is around $9K off sticker for a $65K MSRP, loaded AT4. Everett GMC in Little Rock is at $10K off MSRP. 

 

But yeah, finding the right one with all the right combos of stuff in the right color is tough.

55 for an RST? I see two problems...paying a bit too much and being offered way too little.    Sell it outright. Don’t get bent by the same dealer twice. Only chance at somewhat of a recovery.

I disagree. I think they went too big and replaced features that should have buttons with icons on a screen. One thing I like about the GM is the built in redundancy. Should the screen stop working I still have buttons to push for the radio, heated seats, climate control, etc. GM went smarter, not fancier. I like that. As a veteran I've learned to live by the mantra of "2 is 1, 1 is none."

But they did good job of integrating into dash and not an IPad on top of dash

I just think for the size of the dash and surroundings, the 8” display does look tiny in the T1. They could have bumped it up to 10” and still retained all the physical controls and the layout as it is. Ford actually did a good job on that with their new interior.

I've been saving Carvana offers just in case. Gas prices are on the way up and we'll see how high they go. Premium fuel when unleaded is at $2.40 is already not fun - but premium fuel when unleaded is at $4.00 would be brutal. I'd rather keep my Vette and trade the truck down for something without a payment.

The problem is... when gas gets that high, your trade value (or sale value) with a gas-hungry truck is not going to be as high. Trucks and SUVs are not as desirable when people have to pay $80-$100 to fill them up for 350 miles.

Trade it now for one with the 3.0 Duramax. The fuel mileage is amazing with it. I'm getting consistently 600+ miles per tank.

Exactly. It won't matter how well the factories can keep the dealers' lots full. You will see the supply and demand flip to more supply than demand.

??  yep. This is why I'm looking at trading my 5.3L RST in the next months. It will be worth less with $4 gas, and a 3.0L will be hot, hot. 

 

I don't think we'll see $4 gas in the next few months. But the writing is on the wall. A year from now when the economy is in stronger recovery, and with the current administration a full year in place... we're going to see $4 gas. For sure. 

 

And the OPEC guys aren't in a hurry to release supply anytime soon when $bbl is going up.

It may hurt some but Silverado sales kept increasing even when gas was $4.00 once before. Major discounts definitely helped, which would in turn hurt the used market. But demand for trucks has never been higher, either so I don't think it will hurt too bad.

I've thought about it but I figure if I trade, I might as well get out of a payment altogether. Diesel fuel is going up, too. I could put that money to better use anyways. I always wanted a 6.2 since they were first offered on the Silverado 10 years ago and now I have.

Yeah, I'm more personally concerned with the used value of my truck when gas goes up. Like you said, they'll be able to move new metal with heavier discounts. Trucks also aren't as crappy on MPG as they used to be, which will help absorb an increase in gas prices. 

 

No replacement for having what gives you satisfaction, tho. You're right! I only put around 5-6K miles on my truck every year, so the difference between a 6.2L MPG cost and a 3.0L MPG cost is not astronomical for me. The tipping point, for me, is the resale value a couple/few years later.

I really, really love this motor and this truck. But I put about 20k miles on mine every year and my 25-mile commute to work is a lot of up-and-down hills. The gas costs really add up. I guess it couldn't hurt to look around and see what 3.0 deals are lying around... 

 

I'm still paying on the Vette but that's mostly to build credit. I could pay it off and put that payment toward fuel, but I was really hoping to use that as a down payment on a rental property to start building supplemental income while I'm young (27). So then I go back to - why am I making this truck payment when I could just get a cheaper daily? But then I drive it and remember haha. Ahh well, I've got time to figure it out. Like you said, gas won't be $4.00 tomorrow and demand for trucks isn't going away.

And good on you for using your monthly money to MAKE you money and not just spend it away. That's harder than ever to do these days, with SO many options to consume and spend. As with everything in life, it's all about trade-offs. And you have to decide what matters and brings value to YOU. ??

How many people actually put premium in the 6.2 now? When prices rise those that do now I can see putting regular or mid to save and gamble with issues later since most will be traded off.

So that's why your username is econometrics.. makes sense. I'm the same way, I look at resale too. In fact, it's been the biggest factor after I lost a huge chunk off of my premium German sedan and it sucked!

 

I looked at the historic gas prices and the days I traded in my used for a new. I am inclined to believe the gas prices don't really make that much of an impact. And the newer trucks have really good gas mileage.

 

That said, with Biden being less chummy with the Saudis than Trump, Biden's plea for an increase in supply will more likely fall on deaf ears. Now, if Biden gives the Saudis the green light to handle the Yemeni situation, perhaps the Saudis will listen.

 

And the RST since 2020 do not have unlocking buttons on the outside rear door handles. That's why I am looking at GMC Elevation instead.

      I understand that. The price is what it is, though. The price is what oil costs today, where our choices have led us, where supply is, and where demand is, in the market that is. Speculation is for futures, what we think the price will be, but with incomplete information at the time the price is forecast. I know you know this, but you appear to be intent on making a secondary point here about what you think the market could or should be, if only other choices.   In 1975 it became illegal to export US Crude. I'm conflicted on what the best answer is. Free markets allow export in pursuit of profit. But there is also a lot to gain by producing and consuming our own oil here. How do you reconcile it?

      That sir is a choice. And even if it were not for all the reasons stated, this disruption has zero to do with the reality of the actual logistics and everything to do with the greed of SPECULATION. Spot price is irrelevant to reality.

      What I think you're saying is there is supply here at home, and in Venezuela, and we could ease pricing if only it were favorable to do so.   Well, yes?   But that's not the current market. Supply isn't what could someday exist, if only, it's what producers are willing to produce and sell at a certain price point.   The national price of single family homes would come way down if we'd just slap together a few million homes this summer.   RAM and GPUs would get a lot cheaper if we just set up some factories to produce a bunch more and stopped using it to build out AI data centers.

      The turn signal/multifunction switch is faulty.  I've seen a few of these go bad at work.

      I am experiecing the same issue, I have gone in the setting and disabled rain sensing function but I am still experiencing this. Whe i use my turn signal they will redomly turn on. Sometime they stay on and others times we swipe 2 or 3 times and stop. Its super anoying, escpecially after a fresh wash.
