Ford = new Raptor

Dodge = TRX 

Chevy = Electric?

 

Don't even get started on the Bronco / Blazer ordeal haha! 

 

 

Is Chevy really about to be extinct from performance game?

Corvette is a very capable car for the price. But even the head of dodge said the V8s are numbered and with the new restrictions USA will have it won't be long before the V8 is dead. Ford is smart getting way ahead of the game with the ecoboost, Toyota has a new ecoboost like coming soon.

I can see GM taking the smaller turbo motor and making a replacement for the 5.3/6.2 in the next few years.

I'm well aware how quick they can be.  We have just seen several missed opportunities to revamp the GM label and each time they go into left field while the competition hits home runs. 

Most people are not interested in how quick an electric car or truck at the current moment because that hasn't been the standard.

Biggest issue is battery degradation and charging in cold/ hot climates.

Toyota is working on a solid state battery, a few others are working on graphene and cobalt less packs which should improve EV ownership.

For now I'm glad my truck is gas because electric can't fill the void that I need my truck for but only for the fact that I don't have a heated garage to charge a Tesla Model X in during the winter months I would have for sure bought one over my Jeep SRT

Ford was smart???  No offense but GMs V8s get better fuel economy than the ecoboosts do. I have 5 family members who have them and they don’t come near the EPA fuel economy numbers.  Stepdad finally sold his and his GMC Sierra gets on average 22 mpgs.  His ecobust couldn’t sniff 18 mpgs owning it for 5 years. 
There is no reason for GM to abandon their V8s.

No offense taken but the EcoBoost is far far better on gas than any GM I've ever owned . I've had for EcoBoost since 2011 and they have all been Flawless it's true you can't have Eco and boost it's one or the other.

I will promise you this With the way the EU and Biden are going the V8 are numbered Every major manufacturer if you could walk in on their board of directors having a meeting it's going to be about ev's and more efficient engines the CEO of Dodge came out publicly and said that V8 are numbered and you can Google that.

It will take a lot of work to phase out a V8 engine for a commercial class truck As some companies have restrictions around diesel.

For now I'm enjoying my 6.2 V8 but for my next truck if they figure out the diesel exhaust garbage I will probably get a diesel

The V8 wont die as a whole, but large displacement V8's will.  What you will see is smaller displacement V8 engines with turbos.  Mark my words, the next gen corvette motor will be a smaller capacity(down to ~5.0 liters vs the current 6.2 liters) flat crank V8 with an upgraded version being the same motor with a turbo charger.  Since the Corvette motor is usually the baseline for GM's other large displacement engines such as the 6.2 liter L87 currently in the large SUV's and truck platforms, you can anticipate that whatever the next engine platform is in the Corvette, it will be the carryover for other GM models as well

I agree with Gangly that GM uses the Corvette as their rolling "testbed" for future technological developments and some of those do make it to their regular production lineup, so it is wise to keep an eye on the Corvette for the possible direction of GM's vehicles to come. The Rochester mechanical fuel injection in 57 was pretty much a fail, but in 63 they scored big with IRS and disc brakes. So are we going to see other mid-engine ICE's in the GM lineup? Most probably not, but the Corvette often does offer us clues on the future of the automobile.

Looked for it, couldn't find anything.  I saw a video of a 21 Raptor but obviously not what I was looking for.  It didn't have engine info.

GM is capacity constrained right now until Oshawa is up and going.  Basically right now GM is just substituting one sale for another.  Assuming the margins are similar, you are basically taking the 100 million dollars to develop this special variant and lighting it on fire.

      I would be surprised if the diff's were not filled (with the cheapest gear lube) at the axle factory before being shipped to GM.  If you ever watched them building trucks they install the axles and all suspension parts with the frame upside down and then turn it over before its time to install the engine.     Too much gear lube in a axle can be worse than not enough especially with a lower quality GL where is get whipped up with entrained air (foam)  weakening its ability to lubricate.

      Well....I've done my first intake gasket. Probably wrong, but...we'll see?   Ultra black on the china walls and 1/4" up onto the sides of the intake gaskets. Permatex High Tack (couldn't find Gaskachinch) on the head side of the intake gasket. I read wrong and it says you're supposed to put it on the mating surface of the head, not the gasket. Hoping it's like a PB&J sandwich where it doesn't matter what side the PB goes on so long as there's jelly. That crap is messy/sticky and I got a dab or two on the intake port openings, tried to wipe it off. Hopefully it won't be a big deal and will only aid in sealing.   Per instructions I left the intake (top side) of the gasket dry except for a light smear of RTV around the coolant ports. Wiggling the intake in there was a bear but I had help to free me of surrounding wiring/stuff but I was basically able to set it straight down lined up with the bolt holes.   I did not think to wait until the RTV skinned over but there probably was 5-10 minutes while it sat before installing the intake.   Bolts finger tight first. Then, followed the Chilton's manual pattern to snug them to 15 lb-ft.   Waited a little over an hour, and then did the final torque in sequence again to 35 lb-ft.   Yesterday I replaced the fuel pressure regulator and got my new "nut and bolt kit" (fuel lines) installed. Damn GM used security torx on the spider, which I don't have, so I got scammed at the local HW store for an off-brand security Torx bit set.   The new driver's door mirror arrived yesterday, so, there's a chance this thing could be running and road legal tomorrow? I don't want to get my hopes up.   This will be my first time stabbing a distributor, too. Although, lucky me, someone else marked the old distributor for removal previously, I did see that. (Someone's been here before!!). Engine is still at TDC so it *should* be just a matter of transferring the mark to the new dizzy and rotating it into place.

      He has his dad’s newer truck he’s put away. He has several old cars he rotates between him and his family. I’ve seen a restored square body and a SS Chevy truck he’s sometimes drives. He did raffle off a new suburban recently. As much as he is watched if he drove new stuff as a rule we’d know it. It would be fine by me. I don’t care what people prefer. I got one more new one in me. I’d rather my wife get one. I can’t get her out of the Genesis. Don’t tell anyone. I want her to get an electric truck. I want to put a generator in the back. Just because. She hasn’t bit yet.

      Yes, you must have seen my thread on the Blazer. HOT GARBAGE, but I love them anyway. I'm convinced every car guy has a soft sport for an S/T series somewheres. Probably even a Panther too, if I'm being an honest car guy. That doesn't mean they aren't junk. And they definitely don't get better with age. I sometimes play with old cars, but that's by choice. I don't rely on them and they aren't my everyday fleet.   Derek plays the common man on Youtube and that's no doubt where he started. Now he has Youtube money (and Motortrend, etc). You think his crews and his wife ride around in old beaters when they're chasing him and his wrecks across the country? No he's got newer and nicer stuff for that, you'll see glimpses of it in the footage.
