Ford lost a future head of engineering to Hyundai/KIA and he turned that place around for sure.  Ask anyone who bought the first versions to market in US about their automatic transmissions...  The engines are flawless unless an early rod bearing issue reveals in the 4's.  They pioneered GDI when Ford was building Ecoboosts that carboned up the valves in literally 10,000 miles.

That Genesis 3.8L ( I think)  is amazingly well built.

I’ve had 4 of those 6 cylinders. My brother has a 2010 hemi challenger. The wife’s 11 Genesis sedan has shown its tail lights to it and a few more, much to my surprise. The Elantra needed transmission work 5 years ago. A fairly simple fix. A rebuild was cheep enough so we chose that route. Plug changes are expensive in the Genesis. It is used in town primarily so I’m waiting for a miss or light before spending the money. The Genesis is a jewel. Reminds me of my old favorite of the past. Rear drive impala. Iv owned 13.

How about this thinking.

I quit buying cheap beer years ago.

You use beer and dispose of it just like oil.

Oil should be more important then beer.

For now I will roll with Amsoil OE.

People will walk pass their coffee pot in the morning to  stop at Starbucks. On the way to cheep quick lube to get an oil change.

I used to work with a woman who got a part time job so she could go to Starbucks. She went 3-4 times a day. I also know someone who travels for work and books rooms based on local Starbucks. An addiction I guess.

I would agree with that if 30 years younger but I have to stick to clear ethanol variations now with vermouth and at least 2 olives, shaken not stirred.  VA told me to stop at 2 or I am gonna get arrested again.....LOL

Yesterday did an oil and filter change on the Santa Fe. 3148 miles on the Castrol Edge. It was very dirty and the reason I changed it. Put in Amsoil OE and a Purolator One filter. The manual states oil changes at 3750 miles for severe duty and our driving conditions meet Hyundai's severe duty specs.

I was going to go 4 K miles on the Castrol, do a UOA. Switch to Amsoil OE, go 4 K miles do a UOA. I decided not to. Just change it like I have for years. Put the UOA cost toward oil and filters. I will do oil changes now with the Amsoil OE at 3000-3500 miles.

Thanks for the replies.

It would have been really interesting to see the UOA's between the two but understand.  For a 250 mile more run. I would have to go to 4K miles.  OCD in me would make that happen. 😆

My issue with extended OCI's is the oil gets so dirty. Once the oil is saturated with by products and the filter no longer filters the by products are deposited inside the engine. Well that's what I think.

Yes, I know many do extended OCI's without an issue but it's not my cup o tea.

My CRV just had oil change at 9K miles. I just could read it on the stick. My wife’s Genesis gets oil changes half that. It looks dirty. My GM truck stays clean looking after sitting even with a little water getting in the oil. My diesels dirtied right away.

Some of those 'byproducts' are soluble and cannot be filtered out and deposit when the motor is heat cycled. Shellac from fuels poorly combusted. Ask me how I know? :P That gold color. Formed during operation and deposited on cool down and they do not solve out with newer low solvency lubricants. Detergents are ineffective at removing them once deposited. I honestly do not know how effective detergents are at even slowing such fuel related shellac deposits down from plating out. Maybe someone with more chemistry background will weigh in. 😉 @customboss

Leaves two lines of defense. As highlighted, change it before it reaches 'saturation'. Keep it in a sharp state of tune which includes a close eye on the PVC system. The more optimal the ENTIRE tune and the more optimal the service the longer it will go. Not a cookie cutter situation....IMHO.

Hyundai has it figured out for their motor.

I realize  and remember you don't want to do oil analysis but Synthetic Advantage offers a great ISO approved test format to be sure as to the WHY.

Changing oil can mask issues as to the WHY.
