Opinions and real experience appreciated.

Is trade in value impacted when you don't have the original wheels on the vehicle? Whether aftermarket or different OEM wheels?

Example: if i put 20'' Gloss Black Sierra Elevation Wheels on my Denali CCSB instead of the 22'' polished chrome wheels that originally came on the truck, would that impact the trade in value?

I guess there is no for sure way to know without trying to trade it in.

thanks

I suspect they will try to use that to get you to agree to take less. Don't let them. Dealers are desperate for trades. They are often paying well over book value.

Factory to factory rims not so much but factory to aftermarket yes. Aftermarket rims sometimes make it a hard resell on the used car lot because the person wanting to buy the truck on the lot may not like the rims that were put on and walk away that's why alot of people keep their factory rims and put them back on when they trade.

These days, I doubt you'll hear any complaint from a dealership. They just want the trades.

Real life experience earlier this year: I traded in my lifted GMC with aftermarket wheels they barely gave it a glance and it didn't affect my trade-in value. Going back to stock was not an option for me in that case. It sold off their lot very quickly.

Also going to depend if it is a dealer that frequently deals in trucks with similar mods.

In this area it seems that some do, some don't.

22's were an option on Denali -- some buyers don't want them either.

The problem with aftermarket wheels is that the dealership/customer doesn’t want to mess with them because they might not be made anymore. If one gets damaged the customer is $hit out of luck.

Now factory is different but having a 22 inch Denali wheel and going to a 20 inch wheel will affect the trade in. The code on the truck from factory registers as having 22 inch wheels.
But, don’t let that stop you. YOU as the consumer have the power now because dealerships don’t have the inventory and they need it badly.

Good Luck.

You will have an easier time trading in with either the original wheel or a different factory wheel vs. an aftermarket one.  Seen dealers, even now with the way the market is, hit people a bit less because of aftermarket wheels.  OE sells.

It's like anything else, would you want OEM or Aftermarket? In the world of trucks OEM is always going to reign supreme. However there are obviously levels to aftermarket.

Lots of people bolt on a bunch of trash to their trucks though and think they are upgrading it. Sorry but a 6" rough country lift, with bug and window deflectors, some 20x12 method wheels wrapped in Cooper 35's, nerf bars, chrome Ebay stick door handles, aftermarket tinted taillights and a POS light package is going to reduce the value of your truck immeasurably despite the fact that you sunk 5-10k into it.

You don't put a bumper sticker on a Ferrari. Aftermarket wheels are bumper stickers.

This particular case sounds like a downgrade. At least in the eyes of most buyers. The 22” polished wheels just suit a Denali better than 20” black wheels.
