Contacted a dealer on ordering a 2022 3500, they told me 3-4 months build and delivery time. That seems to good to be true, wondering if they’re being honest about that. What experiences out there that people are having with build times?

Seems like it depends on brand and model.

I can only speak to my personal experience, ordering a Chevy LT3500, with a lot of packages and options.

Started October 19th With a high volume dealer in Utah.

Order placed Dec 20th (everything except Roof Marker Light Option was available)

(Delay due to specific "had to have" options not being available)

Build scheduled for first week of February.

Could still be delayed, dealer is good at keeping me posted.

Good luck with your order.

Placed my order for my '22 2500HD LT back in early June.  Build date was week of 11/15.  "Expected" dealer delivery is 08 Dec.  No heated seats.  Not sure about heated steering wheel and front/rear parking sensors.

I can't speak directly to GM, but I ordered an F350 in August and finally had to cancel the order in December as I still had no VIN nor build date and needed a truck. Luckily found a 2020 GMC 3500HD. I think all the manufacturers are having component supply problems.

On the other hand, some guys who ordered after I did got their F350's, so it all seemed to depend on what options were chosen and availability of those commodities.

I place the order for my Sierra 3500 at the end of August 2021 with a complete understanding of the restraints placed on the auto industry due to the lack of materials and settled in to wait for acceptance of this order. In mid-November I was notified by GM that my truck order was accepted with no constraints and was scheduled to be built. Notification was later received that the truck had been built November 18th with a VIN assigned. A follow-on notification informed me that my truck was in transit to the dealership with an anticipated delivery date of December 6th which never came to fruition. I even sold my existing truck based on this date. Now that I am vehicle less. This order has now been escalated to the "Executive Resolution Team I continue to receive many excuses for the delay of delivery with the truck’s status constantly changing to and in this order:

  • 12/6 - Delivery ETA
  • 12/8 – Ready to ship
  • 12/13 - At up fitters getting the spray-in bed liners installed
  • 12/16 - Sitting in Flint Michigan
  • 12/17 - In QC inspection
  • 12/21 – No ETA
  • 1/3 - Delivery to dealership.  yet it is still sitting in Flint Michigan!

Although this had been escalated to the Executive Resolution team I am always told by GM "Your dealership will be in the best position to provide further insight. I would suggest reaching out to your dealership for further updates or information" Who happens to know as much as me. I wish they would just give an honest answer as this is unrepairable harm they are doing to GMC.

I just got off the phone with the GM Executive Escalation team who now informs me that once released for transport it is out of their hands and I need to speak to the dealership. Having now done both, I informed each that I will be getting louder on social media and forums to insure all potential order placers  that trucks are NOT being delivered and no one is taking responsibility.

How did you/who did you talk to at GM?  I get two different answers from the dealer and Chevy when I talk to them about my truck.

"Stuck in Flint" ~ there ya go. Perfect answer and "pass the buck" deniability.

I made a surprise visit to my dealer yesterday and this is the absolute truth and I'm not far from Flint. I told them I'll go get it just get me the keys. That's way too practical of an idea for a giant as GM stuck in the mud unable to move.

I was told that GM was even shipping trucks from Texas assembly plant to ease the back log....so apparently they have car haulers in Texas?

I know this much, dealers want these orders to show up even more than us as customers do because it's how they survive and retain their salespeople. I represent a major manufacturer in a dealership as well and 2022 is going to be worse than 2021 was. A year ago we had some inventory, right now a mostly empty showroom.

I also learned a few other things. For example "GM isn't honoring the F&F or Partner program discounts" ... that's BS. That particular DEALER isn't honoring it. The dealer is reimbursed "partially" for that program, not completely. So if anyone gets that it's a false excuse. I was told "For you yes, but we don't do it for everyone, just our loyal, local customers" and honestly, I get that. I have discretion in every deal I make. You'd be surprised how expensive it is to be an ****, impatient or lowball shopper. That type hasn't a clue how much they screw themselves by being a dick. Just a little info for the real world, not the one some people live in in their own mind.

I got a text from my sales rep today. Apparently my truck will be in next week. I think he and I were both a little surprised. All in all. It’s been a 4 month wait since ordering. When I see the truck with my eyes ill believe it’s here.

That is encouraging! Mine was ordered in August so I'm going into month 5 for a simple build. I was told my Reg cab/8', gas LT, 4wd ~ to me simple, but apparently the reg cab throws them for a loop.

This is good news though!! I'm expecting some news any time but trying to forget about it as much as possible.

Yeah my order was pretty generic. A black 2500 custom gas. Crew cab standard box

Guy I work with has a rep at one store telling him he can have exactly your same thing, in 4-8 weeks. I told him he's lying to you. He checked another dealer and got the reality ck - 4-6 mo. He wants to believe 4-8 weeks so badly but that's just mean to do to people.

I went into this expecting a 3-9 month wait with a year left on my trailboss lease. So I gave myself some room to play with. Best tip i can give. Give yourself time, order the truck, and then forget you ordered it.

    • I have a `25, 1500 that auto sets on incline. Never knew that at first. I have the electronic shifter. Just think if it didn`t do that? Unlike a mechanical shift that you can muscle out of park, how would you get this thing out? That would be a problem.   What I found out later is, I don`t have to push the button to release. Just put it in gear.   Setting parameters? Don`t know if it`s possible.

REAR AXLE - 3.73 RATIO INC. GVWR, 11,350 LBS. (5148 KG) INC. FRONT AND REAR PARK ASSIST, INC. ULTRASONIC     I have been launching my new boat and noticed some things related to the parking brake.. I usually set the parking brake (habit) when on flat ground for typical driving.    When backed down on the launch ramp to launch the boat and I place gear selector into Park, the parking brake activates automatically. My second nature is to set parking brake manually and noticed I was turing the parking brake off.  The parking brake appears to be setting itself automatically.   I looked all over my owner's manual and only found references to being on an incline and manually setting parking brake, or at times parking brake will be auto engaged, but nothing specific to my situation.    When is the parking brake automatically engaged?  Under what specific circumstances?  Can the auto set parameters be changed?     I like the auto set feature.  It would be nice if always engaged when shifted into Park and released when shifted out of Park (like my wifes 2025 RAV4).   Thanks!
    • www.enginelabs.com/news/what-i-learned-today-bearing-clearances-vs-oil-viscosities/     www.enginelabs.com/news/oil-viscosity-can-the-numbers-be-misleading/ The Big Lie… Coming full circle to the reason Lake discusses the Porsche engines in particular. Based on the 2000 samples in the SPEEDiagnostix database, increasing the oil viscosity in these engines, even those run on the track, showed no significant difference in results.   The smoking gun was in the oil chemistry. That is where the data shows higher instances of more wear. Molybdenum was the key; the higher the amount, the less the wear. Speed postulates that higher viscosity oils have more thickeners to artificially inflate their viscosity numbers. These thickeners lose viscosity under shear, and the result is that not all oils of the same viscosity have the same shear stability.   Having enough viscosity is the most important characteristic, but according to Speed, once that required viscosity level is reached, additive chemistry matters more than additional viscosity. Speed also states, oil pressure problems on the racetrack aren’t a viscosity problem; it’s an oiling system problem. Running a thicker oil is just a band-aid for an underlying oiling system problem.
    • Can it still be Assembled II?   Viscosity on the decline by various means. Heat on the rise making that worse. Engine RPM in the tank. Smaller motors with more boost trying to emulate an electric motor. Full torque, zero rpm. Then we will triple the OCI. Argh.    But wait....there is more. LSPI has pushed a shift from Ca to Mg and as that cost more PLUS the run to lower sulfur compounds the TBN is moving in the wrong direction for the increased OCI's demanded.    That not being enough to placate a demand for a parameter they can't measure the other sulfur bearing compounds are also under attack. That would be zinc and phosphorus sulfonate compounds. To some degree those are being replaced with boron esters and others, i.e. titanium ect. All of which have shorter service lives. And there there is the "Secrete Sauce" marketing for AW adds that 'Can't be detected by UOA's" but trust me because I (the blenders) never ever lie.    Spoiler alert; ALL additives are sacrificial! Smaller amounts of the old blended with less robust versions of the new do not equal longer service lives. So what are the blenders recommending? Wait for it.......   MOVING THE GOAL POSTS! OMG      Let's declare the long standing TAN/TBN crossover irrelevant and tell people that soot is a great 'graphite' based lubricant which can aid tribo films. Wait, what? Let's declare that the standards used for oxidation and nitration were to conservative and can be expanded. Let's tell them that because GDI fuel dilution, although being a VISCOSITY KILLER and an acid generator is actually okay because we have better base oils that limit viscosity failure limits. (Said knowing this is measured in fractions of a centipoise and in bases not commonly used in shelf oils)   Lying from the heart is not just the new normal but we have a public, a very young public, that is so ignorant of the facts and so sure of their "RESEARCH" into AI driven models base in regurgitated  instead of scientific research based unvarnished, peer reviewed FACTS that the incoming guard is loosing their grip on reality and the OEM's are tickled pink while the blends bend the knee.    You have an ever limited set of tools to work with. And sooner or later those will be taken from you as the API and the EPA strangle the last remaining fluids from the system. What you have left is your wits. If you care to use them.    At some point in the very near future it will not longer be possible to do "What is best for the machine", and be replaced with "The best you have access too". You WILL be rewarded with half the life and twice the cost. That isn't that hard to predict.
    • I trust you saw the other comment where he knew what he was talking about !. Yes, these darned newer vehicles with all their so smart they are stupid technology, goes and drains the battery down. As you might see my other comment, I installed a Noco 5 battery tender under the hood and at this point still have the cord routed so I have to lift the hood and then plug it in but am typically parked in a garage or a shed so its not risking the engine hood in the wind. That way I am assured or hopefully so of not finding I have a battery drawn down and can't even start the truck and that also damages the battery to draw it down too far.
