How did they get an additional 18 horses on the CT5 V model ?

From what I've read from Car and Driver and Motortrend:

Luckily, a lot of the pieces are already in place. GM's LS small-block line is a living legend, developed at the zenith of the art and science (pun intended) of internal combustion. It produces a staggering 668 hp and 659 lb-ft of torque—numbers up 28 hp and 29 lb-ft compared to the CTS-V's LT4 engine, thanks to a freer-flowing intake, an upgraded supercharger that creates more boost down low, and a smaller but more efficient intercooler.

I'll answer your question with a question.  How is it the base C8 and the Z51 C8 have the same powertrain, but the Z51 makes more power?

GM has been doing that forever. My 94 impala had 265 hp. My 94 Z-28 had 275. In the 60s and 70s you could have one engine with up to 4 different HP ratings. Then they started the net instead of gross HP. For awhile the under rated HP in some engines.

I thought the difference in the C8 was simply the freer flowing exhaust ? Like the C7 from 455 to 460

Another damn question is why wont GM give the 6.2 the C7 ratings ?  450HP 490TQ for the next 6.2 ratings!

Lastly i was comparing the 668 HP to the Z06 Rating of 650 . Blower looks to be same size was really what i was thinking.

This is why I won't be trading for the refresh. If GM would have gotten their head out of their @$$es, and rated their V8's with more HP/TQ I would have jumped on it.

5.3L 400HP

6.2L 460 or 475 HP easily

NO reason for me to trade when I don't mind the interior of mine, easy to use and clean. Yes, the new interior is awesome, but come on GM, offer more POWER. I was greatly disappointed they didn't update the 5.3 or 6.2

Still unreal that we have the same exact 5.3/6.2 ratings from 2014 .  We will be 10 years into the same ratings until maybe their main engines get a bump.  Look i agree with you on both motors needing a bump but the 5.3 is desperate for a bump.

Lowest rated HP/TQ of all 5 liter engines.

GM had something going with the E-85 HP bump on the 5.3. How about a premium bump on the 5.3. Some companies are getting bumps with hybrids combos. Or even a 4.3 twin turbo. You can get pretty much anything in a Ram. Probably why they keep gaining market share. I recently rode in my brothers new Ram his third. It’s pretty amazing.

True. The 5.3L needs a bump in power for sure but it does perform d@mn well for being the lowest HP/TQ ratings.  Last Car and Driver a read  had its 0-60 times right at the same as a so called “Hemi 5.7L and Fords Coyote 5.0L.

400 HP is very attainable and still being reliable for that power plant.

Yes the 14-18 5.3L with E-85 were rockets!!  I think they were rated at 406ish???   Don’t quite me on that. Read an article a few year back.

im on the other hand not that impressed with the Ram. Buddy has had 2 of them. Interior is nice. Not outstandingly out of this world like the car magazines state. His new ETorque Hemi isn’t  that impressive and his gas mileage isn’t good either. To each their own.

Supercharging and focusing on monstrous HP/TQ numbers is stupid as all hell. Focus that engineering talent and give me a more efficient V8 with MPG numbers in the 30's without hybridizing it or reducing the HP/TQ it has now and you'll sell way more than a supercharged freak that I doubt anyone on this forum could afford anyways.

Just thought I'd troll give a different perspective. Carry on...

You are entitled to your opinion, but Ram and Ford say otherwise. Hell look at the Dodge Challenger the past 15 years. All they do is up the HP/TQ and they keep selling it.  The TRX is selling very well, and Ford is bringing out a supercharged V8 finally in their Raptor. You can't tell me it doesn't matter and people don't want more power!

As for affording it, LMFAO. Just because you couldn't scratch it doesn't mean I WON'T or others wouldn't throw down the cash to get into a truck that has the performance of a sports car, yet can tow or haul the things they need to and from wherever their destination requires.

Proceed.....

It’s amusing when people drink the cool aid just put down a vehicle. I always have preferred GM. I feel they left me. They’re not the performance leader in my opinion. I’ve owned all the brands. I have 4 different brands right now with different things I like about each. I’ve owned Rams in there’re bad days when they had the best diesel. I pulled my equipment so I put up with less comfort to get the job done. I quit Ford because of the local dealership, they’re crooks. My nephew has a raptor, there’s no GM comparison. With my experience with Ram they’d come a long way. GMs is going the other. I personally feel I own one of the best year GM with my Avalanche. If I was to buy a new truck today it would probably be a Toyota. As the car pro radio host recently said. Toyota doesn’t do anything with out thoroughly testing it. He owned a few ford dealerships years ago before his radio program. He test vehicles weekly. His number one favorite over all is Toyota. After my Camry I can’t disagree. Mine is the Genesis. After having 4 Hyundai’s. So it’s personal preference. Not the best. We’d all be driving Toyota or Honda if it was.

I wasn't putting down the Ram at all. I'm just not that impressed with the interior as the magazines state "its out of this world beautiful"  It is very nice, now GM's new interior I think looks nicer. I also haven't been impressed and neither has he with the E-Torque. Even he states its a joke! The doors on the Ram still feel cheap when you close them. Now, have they gotten better than the previous years, OH HECK YES!

I won't even comment on a Furd, never liked them and too many on other side of the family who think they're the best, even when they have there issues with them over and over again.

If I was to buy a different truck I would choose the Titan, call me crazy but I have liked the looks of them since they came out in 2019 with redesign. They also offer a V8!

I agree that GM is falling behind with a few things and that comes from the person in charge at the top!!

My choice for a 4 door sedan would be a Stinger!! That is a very sleek, sexy looking car that can haul 4 people very comfortably.  It's a shame GM didn't make the Impala a competitor!

I was going to add Titan forgot. My wife drove a few Impalas. That’s why she loves the Genesis. The next one will be stinger or g-70 Genesis according to her. She gets next pick. She’s had hers since 2011. I’ve had a few since that time. Her turn.

You're crazy, lol!

Now that's out of the way, forget the Impala.  Give me the SS.  RWD > FWD.  The limited production garbage and no supercharged powertrain crap was ridiculous.  If I were to buy a car today it would be a Charger.  #2 would be a Taurus SHO.  Nothing personal against imports.  They just don't build drivetrains I like.  Best imports, imo, is Lexus F-series and BMW M-series.  But, Cadillac makes a good competitor, so if go that route, but I still need a truck and would like to have the performance of a sports car.  That's why I want a s/c.

    • We have now!  2027 GMC Sierra  Early look, but I'm a GMC guy and so far I think I like the looks of the Chevy better.
    • HD at the moment, are kinda their own deal.  How LTZ sells on those vs on 1500, there is a difference.   They are merging most of the mid trims on 1500.  LT, RST and LTZ are replaced by one trim, Silverado.  LT and RST are a BIG portion of sales.    Bad naming choice aside, the new Silverado trim will offer the spread of options that those three trims offered.  So expect to see things like the tech package for example, and memory seats.  And LT Trail Boss will now just be "Trail Boss" (formerly LT Trail Boss) but will offer content spread like the new Silverado trim will.  The press photos showed the Trail Boss (formerly LT Trail Boss) has access to Super Cruise now, which on the current truck was High Country only.       Here is the Trail Boss interior.  Memory seats and Super Cruise are present.  All things the LT Trail Boss it replaces, and the RST it was based on didn't get on the current gen.  You had to go to LTZ or ZR2 for memory seats, and High Country for Super Cruise.
    • I installed a Hellwig rear sway bar on my 21 Sierra SLT, it made a huge difference on how the truck handles, no body roll, the trucks much more planted now. Not sure of the suspension differences between the 21 and 26,  if its body roll your having a sway bar will solve it.
    • So a follow up and my fix. I found in online searches the live data to look at on a scan tool to verify the fuel tank pressure sensor was working.  It showed an spec number towards the lower end of the rang, but in spec.  Then while it was running opened the gas cap and the pressure should change.  It didn't change even a tiny bit.  The data for the purge valve said it was open...never changed. So then I measured the voltages on the plug for the fuel pressure sensor and they matched what it should be.  So local car quest parts had the sensor in stock...it was a bit of a pain to remove and an even bigger one to get it to actually go back in.  It helped to unbolt the driveshaft and bungie cord away from the gas tank to give a bit more room to work. So fuel tank pressure sensor in I cleared the code, and started it up.  I went to the scan tool's live data and... Eureka! The pressure number was different and fluctuated a bit.  So took it on a short drive and pressure number varied saw the purge valve go from closed to open and back to closed.  Drove it to and from work for roughly a week plugged in the scan tool no codes.  I took it in to get tested and passed.  In my state's infinite wisdom (oops meant greed), since I pushed the test with the maximum extensions I have to take it back in by Feb '27 to 'get it back up to date', then my next test won't be until Feb '29.
