Had "service emission system" warning come up followed by engine power derate.  Dealer has since told me I need a new Def tank and there is zero in stock anywhere and zero timelines provided as to when there will be some available.
Truck is unusable and here I am without as there are no loaner/rental vehicles available for use.
I have a ZR2 on order, with no build date.  Needless to say, I am one VERY unhappy GM customer!

I really feel for my dealer as they are great to work with and this problem is totally out of their control.

Sorry, just had to vent.  I thought I would post this to see if I am the only one.
Misery loves company!

Any other symptoms?

I took a trip last weekend to go snowmobiling. I left with 2 lines/lights down from full on the gauge.  I was pulling a 2 place snowmobile trailer with 2 sleds so nothing heavy at all but had a bad headwind. By the time I got to the hotel,  I was down to half a tank (went down 2 more lines) but figured that was from the headwind. Came back home with no wind and was a real nice easy drive. I kept an eye on the DeF gauge and everything was fine until about 75 miles from home. I watched it go from half a tank to 1000 mile warning to 500 miles until power reduce all within minutes.  This happened before once but it ended up going back to normal...this time it didn't correct itself and kept counting down until I put more DEF in.

So, truck is still down.  Looking at another month before def tanks are here at the earliest.  Concern is, there is no guarantee that this will fix the problem.  And to think I am one of the lucky ones.  Many have had their trucks down longer than me, and my dealer was able to provide me with a loaner truck.  GM better get their ****** together and quit leaving their customers and dealers hanging out to dry.

Can't you guys delete the DEF system or turn it off in the tune yet?

I'm curious as to how a plastic tank cannot be cleaned and requires replacement???

From what I gather on the 2500/3500's, the def heater connector is not heavy enough and in freezing temps the heater pulls too many amps and melts the connector, opening up the circuit, setting a cel, causing limp mode.

I am for keeping all oem, but if this kept me from using the truck, I would cut the connector out and splice with wirenuts/butt connectors, to keep rolling.

I don't have first-hand knowledge if this is the problem on the 1500's.

I have a 2021 GMC 1500 3.0 with 25k miles. I have the same issue this past Tuesday, the service def system popped up along with the CEL. After about 25 miles of driving the service def system cleared itself however the CEL always stayed on. This would then reset the miles until 65mph prompt after some more driving the service def system would reappear and then clear itself this happened about 3 times until I was able to get it in the shop.

I was able to get the truck into the dealership on Friday morning by Friday afternoon they called me and said I need a new DEF tank with no timeline on the DEF tank due to national backorder.

It sounds like it’s the same issue everyone is having the connectors are melting causing CEL errors and limp mode. He also told me they have 2 2500’s on the lot right now with the same issue and are waiting on DEF tanks.

I got soured on Diesel when the DEF came out even your farm tractors have it now. But than you have to deal with the possible lifter issues on gas burners. All just from the government regulations and the push to go electric 🤮

You're right, those clowns in Washington doing this are evil.

Farm tractors with DEF?  That stuff would be in my burn pit right quick.

i would do this in a heart beat but I lease my trucks and this is not an option.

Hey Canada and America, how is the Just in time inventory system and reliance on foreign part supply working for you???  I am shocked that the there is not more companies, like GM, building their own parts now.  The inability to source parts and not provide times lines in this day and age is mind boggling to me.  This is an absolute disgrace.

well i just traded my 2015 2500 dmax for a 2023 Chevy 1500 3.0 d max and it has got a hole 26 miles on it and it is setting at the service dealer with needing a DEF tank with a national back order. I do got a gas loaner from the dealer ship. Thank god. Now there no time frame on repair. it makes you want to pull your hair out. I am wondering if anyone has got there's repaired ? time frame? and have they had anymore problems?

Here in Oklahoma, my dealership was able to get a tank in 3 days from another dealership...to replace the one that I had with the heater fault....hope this one doesn't have the same issue since it was so quick.
