Rough Country SF1 Fender Flares on refresh

Recommended Posts

Hey all. I finally got around to installing these fender flares that I had paint matched. They aren't advertised as fitting the refreshed but I wanted to give it a try. They fit but needed some custom brackets from the first two screw holes on the front flares.

I like the look but curious as to what other users comments would be as to what additional mods this truck needs, if any, the make it complete. I'm happy with it but I have ideas what else needs to be done but will let you have comments.

Truck and fender flares look great!

I personally would delete the AM/FM antenna; unbolt the bracket and secure antenna inside the right fender area with a cable tie or two, insert a black plastic plug in the hole where the antenna was, you can find them at Lowes for like 0.25$ you'll lose a little range of radio reception, but the clean look would be worth it, and its easy to undo if you don't like it.

I think they look great but I also think another 2 inches of height and bigger tires would really bring them out.

Yup that's the plan. GM accessories trail boss lift in the future, at some point in time. The flares are more for body protection in my eyes at the moment. Not comfortable changing tire diameter yet until tuners are able to change tire size. But my next set of tires will probably be 35s x 12.5

I been trying to find fender flares that will fit on my refresh model but they still don’t have them out yet. Which ones did you buy and what modifications did you need to do? I would love to put those on mine is there anyway I can email you thank you hope to hear from you

Google the title and you'll see them. They say they don't fit on the refresh but that's only because they haven't redesigned the two brackets for each front flare. I basically bought a couple of corner brackets from home depot about the size of the ones the flares come with. Then i hammered them into the same basic shape and cut and drilled them to fit. The rears fit with no mods

Can you send me a picture of the rubber seal you have on the flares?

I feel like mine may have been put on incorrectly, as the rubber also wants to fold under the flare. I have to constantly pull it back out, its extremely annoying

Thanks

That's the way my molding was. It should have had adhesive inside the channel that attaches to the flare. I had wrapped the bottom front edge of my front flare and the kit didn't supply enough to properly do that on both sides. I bought some molding off ebay that had adhesive inside and didn't have the weird flap that kept the flare from sitting against the body properly. I also added some PPF tape under the flare where it touches the body so it won't vibrate and rub into the clear/paint. I could clearly see the marks on Rough Country's truck in various product pictures with and without flares.

Yes to all of these points except I just dealt with the rubber that RC sent me but I cleaned the inside up with alcohol and attached my own 3m adhesive double sided tape in the rubber piece before installing on my flares. The thicket part of the rubber I installed on the inside of the flare as I wanted as little amount of it showing. Has held up for the past year with no issues. Just have to make sure your surfaces are really clean prior to installing the tape

Have you had any issues with the screws vibrating loose on your front flares? I'm constantly hearing a rattle only to find out one or two screws on the passenger front are loose or have fallen out.
