LS identity

some one gave me an LS powertrain but they don't know the year or engine size, trans is 4L60 with transfer case, I'm guessing it's a 5.3,  How can I identify year and engine size?

It is not drive  by wire it has a cable throttle body if that helps with what years it could be. If anyone wants any of this for parts PM me. I can deliver within 100 miles, otherwise will scrap it as it's of no use to me. it is complete

Dished pistons will be a 5.3 and flat top pistons will be a 4.8 in those years with cable throttle body.

would the engine number be the same as the VIN? I haven't had the time to check it ,, is it on the left rear of the block? I want to post it on Craigslist as it's in my way so it would help if I know the year etc

This video kinda jumps around but gives you spots to check for numbers.

 

Look for the part number and the julian date to give you an exact day/year the engine was made.

I had a chance to talk to the original owner , he thinks it's a 2000 6.0, Would they use a 4L60E on a 6,0 ? Supposedly very low miles

Do you have the vin from the truck it came out of? I can VIS it and give you the size and year.

No 4L60 behind a 6.0L

6.0 engines are clearly stamped on the block under the drivers side head and on the rear below the passenger side head. Just looking at the block would have shown you a 4.8/5.3 stamp or a 6.0 stamp.
