Damn...

That's what I'm afraid of. I've been told the module behind the seat has replaced, the rear camera and all connections cleaned and greased. But, I've never received any documentation of any of that.

Just FYI, they replaced several camera modules behind the rear seat before they dug deeper and said the rear window was leaking on the modules, requiring yet another replacement.  However, on another visit after that they said the rear camera that had already been replaced before had developed an internal short, and the factory wiring harness also had shorts in it.  Our truck was bought new, stays in a southern climate, has never been wrecked, and is all dealer maintained, so in my opinion it has to be design flaws in the electrical systems on these trucks.  The electrical issues alone in our truck have been a nightmare, let alone the other warranty repairs.  I initially chalked it up to being a Covid era build that sat around in Mexico or a railyard for months, but I'm seeing the exact issues posted here on '22-'24 trucks.

If anyone is wondering...

This sucks. Rewired the whole system, 2 seperate harnesses, I'm told. New cameras all around. New module, I guess behind the seat. New camera in the windshield. Two more times at the dealer for that. Yesterday waited on it to get wrapped up. Drove off the lot, stopped 10 mins down the road, put it in reverse--- the black screen with the triangle and exclamation mark.

This is beyond infuriating at this point. I don't know what to do either. The dealer says they've talked to "GM", I've opened a case with GM customer care, but I think its obvious they aren't communicating with one another because of things each have said the other is working on, but nothing happens.

I hate to trade it, but that's what I think my only real option is.

Not to discourage you, but I opened a case with GM customer care too, and their offers were insulting at best after all the electrical problems we've had with our truck.  Plus, it took over 4 months of constantly hounding them before anything came of it.  When the truck had a repeat issue before resolving the customer care case, they put the offers on hold and told me I had to take the truck back to the dealer before they would do anything more.  We weren't sure if trading for the same brand would accomplish anything because ours is a '21 and we've seen reports from '22-'24 owners of the same issue.  When you stop the truck and re-start does the black screen cure itself or is it still stuck?  Sometimes that would cure our issue temporarily, and during other failures it would not.

2024 RST have the same issue it's intermittent but for $65K it shouldn't be happening and the dealership does software updates they say and it will work for a day or two then back to the black screen

Mine goes back in Friday for what I think is the 8th visit for a fault/failure in the surround camera failure.  For the second time, the drivers surround camera flashing between the image and black, or just all black, but we've had the black screen multiple times too.  I'm not convinced GM knows how, or wants to spend the money it would take to fix this system on existing models, as all they've done is throw parts at it... multiple camera modules, multiple cameras, new wiring harnesses, software updates, you name it, and here we are at 4.5 years and 60K+ miles with the same problem it's had since it was new.

Have been driving a 2022 Silverado 1500 loaner while my 2021 camera system gets diagnosed, and the 2022 loaner is flashing to a black screen with a red exclamation in reverse.  Had to just laugh... clearly GM is lost on this one!

I was getting the black screen whenever I put the truck in reverse as well.  I found damage to the coaxial cable between the rear camera and the connector located on the drivers rear of the vehicle, as well as some damaged connectors elsewhere where conductors had detached from the connector pins.  I re-pinned the connectors, and since the coaxial cable couldn't be purchased individually, I purchased the entire rear harness which was about $120, and replaced it myself.

Upon inspection of the pins, I believe them to be Molex 150MX pins.  They installed seamlessly and worked perfectly in the connectors.

No issues since replacing the harness and re-pinning a circuit.

    • On 2021 3500hd it consistently sets automatically when selecting park if the incline/decline is above a certain angle.
    • Curious, did anyone ever get a fix for the vibration reported here.   I have a 2024 Silverado with 6.6 duramax.   I’m noting the same vibration resonating up through the steering shaft into the steering wheel.    Best way to describe- like someone is tapping on the steering shaft/components and it’s resonating into the steering wheel.    thanks.
    • Hi friends - first time poster. I have a 2015 sierra Denali with 150k miles, I’m the second owner and she’s given me 75k of great service. I run a pulse AFM disable device. Starting Thursday when I exited the freeway after a short local ride it started idling rough, with an obvious misfire shake and was down on low end power.  I got it home and hooked it up to my scannner and found no codes but in live data a pretty bad misfire on cylinder 5. I replaced the coil, plug and wire with all new OE replacements (Delphi gn10165 coil, acdelco wire and 41-168 plug). It’s still behaving the same way after firing the parts cannon at it.   I know cyl 5 is a non AFM cylinder so I am not thinking this is AFM related but I’m kinda at a loss. injector? Bent pushrod? It’s running too well over 1k rpm to suggest those IMO. Has anyone chase this issue before and what was it? Any suggestions?
    • 2017 Silverado L83 5.3l 6speed transmission Hello, not a new member but havent posted in a while and my old signup info isnt working so had to create a new account. anyways, I have an issue with my truck and hope someone can spread some light on whats happening: -when it goes to 4cyl mode it makes a clunk sound (but not when coasting or going downhill) -when in 4 cyl mode and under load it makes a load pulsating sound (not a tick). -goes away completely when in M5 gear or when plugging in an AFM delete. Im guessing it is one of 2 things but im not convinced of either to be honest. 1. lifter stuck in v8 mode 2. torque converter shudder realistically it doesn't seem like the TC as there is no physical vibration , and it never happens in v8 mode. but maybe? and wouldnt a lifter make a sound whether with load or not? any ideas let me know please. thank you!
    • Which has made me wonder with the various engine failures of a few brands in the last few years, is it sub par materials such as lifters etc causing failures, or bearing clearances on the crank etc or perhaps bad designing of an engine physically or causing too much load on the components due to the hp/torque they can push out of them. Or is the oil viscosity and additive package of current oils or a lack of oil flow by an oil pump not able to supply sufficient oil at idle or under high load at low rpm. Or is it every item I listed that combined together has pushed the limits so far to the left that there is hardly a margin of safety left and add in some fuel dilution and too long of an OCI and premature engine failure is the result ?.
