T-Ley Posted April 19, 2023 Posted April 19, 2023 I'm trying to convince my wife a camper shell will not turn my truck into a grampa ride. Let me see photos of your pickups! Bonus for being black with 6.5' bed
redwngr Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 She's right. But sometimes a shell makes the truck better able to do the job it's being asked to do.

DasGoob Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 Well it is not black, but it is 6.5'. I love my topper and I think it looks great. Additionally i added the power lock for the topper and it works great. Did it myself and saved $200 over Leer dealer install.
Gangly Posted April 24, 2023 Posted April 24, 2023 You can always skip the Grandpa look and go with a softopper...
mds47588 Posted April 25, 2023 Posted April 25, 2023 Luv mine and I also went for the power lock on the liftgate, the fold down window at the front to enable cleaning of the window and the trucks window as well.

When I bought the cap for my 2018 the dealer wanted to use an adapter that T's off of the rear harness plug. It was pretty expensive at a little under $100 and supposedly only required unplugging the connector and placing the adapter between the 2 existing connectors. Personally I always wire mine myself since I usually run a 12v+ to the back so my dome light can work whenever I need it to. On my 18 I bought a new pin for the connector at the rear that had a CHMSL circuit in it but was left unused. I cant recall the exact details but it was pretty simple. I doubt the newer (19 and up) are the same though. The simplest way to wire the CHMSL is to buy a "logic circuit" on Amazon and wire it into both brake lights. This circuit comes on when the brake lights come on but does not flash when a turn signal is on. Unfortunately the wires have to be tapped into at the rear of the truck (I usually make the connection behind the left tail light) and you really need to seal these connections well so they wont corrode. Whatever you do dont use Skotch loks or similar wire taps. If your not fairly well versed at 12v wiring practices I would avoid this method.

DasGoob Posted June 26, 2023 Posted June 26, 2023 Sorry Biker, just saw this now. I apologize for not replying. The Leer dealer hooked up the third brake light for me, which I did not know they were going to do. I am pretty ****** so would have preferred to do it my way, but oh well. The lock is sweet.
