Greetings folks, I’m a former owner of a 2018 Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate.  A truck I truly miss and regret selling, but at the time thought it was the right thing to do.  Recently I’ve been looking at some used 2018 Denali’s for sale here in Ontario, Canada and like every where else prices are astronomical.  Which, brings me to my question.  I’m not really a fan of the 2019-2021 re design of the interior on both Silverado and Sierra 1500’s, but very happy with the exterior redesign.   I think they did a great job on the refresh of the late 2022 models and into 2023 especially the dash cluster and console.  I had the 6.2 engine in my 2018 and loved it.  I’ve since fallen in love with the AT4, it’s a beautiful looking truck.  With today’s prices not sure if I’d be able to get back into a Denali Ultimate (100k plus) here in Canada.  So, I’m asking for advice on recent purchases made for both the AT4 and Elevation models.  I don’t really tow much at all or do any serious off roading.  Keep hearing a lot of good things about the Duramax 3.0 newer version engine and wonder how it would compare to the 6.2 in an AT4.  Sorry for the long post fellas, I’m not buying any time soon but just wanted to get feedback on everyone’s opinions, experiences with these newer models.  I’m hoping that GM has resolved the lifter issues.  Many thanks..

I traded my 18 6.2 Silverado in on a 23 6.2 SLT with max tow. I really like the new screen and ease of use with navigation. Before this year the only new GM pickup i would even consider was an AT4 because the rest were hideous. I ended up with the SLT because load ratings were falling off on AT4s which won't be an issue for you and they don't look too bad with the refresh and new wheels.

If you don't mind the drama that comes along with diesel I'd say buy it. It will bring the mpg's back up (AT4 6.2 loses a couple due to the lift kit). Just look at the best mpg thread...

time is in your side, interest rates make a used truck the price of new. i got lucky and bought my 2020 when gas was over 2 dollars a litre, the dealer was happy just to get rid of the truck

Unless the market swings significantly a new one would be be pretty close money wise plus you have the advantage of getting exactly what you want, a longer warranty than used and no on has beat on it or neglected it.

I'm trying to buy a new headlamp assembly for my 2015 WT. Prices run just under $300 to over a GRAND 😱 depending on the seller's greed. I find buying used to be the same in every market, even this one. So, I tend to buy the deal instead of the vehicle. I've ran across a few this year already where it wasn't the perfect vehicle MATCH but the deal would have been fair in any market. You just have to get your head around the idea you're not going to get everything you want but you will get what you need.

Gentlemen,

Thanks to each and everyone of you who replied.  Yes, time is definitely on my side as what is starting to happen up here is that a lot of dealership lots are starting to fill up with vehicles.  Not like many years ago, but also not empty like Covid times where you could land a 747 in several dealership lots.   Yes, buying new certainly has its advantages over buying used.  I know the 6.2 in the AT4 wouldn’t match what I was getting in my 18’ Denali.   I will just standby for now, hoping that at some point incentives and prices are going to come into play.  I realize there not gonna drop drastically, but something is better than nothing.

Thanks again,

Joe

Happy July 4th

Happy Canada Day

Cheers

If you're not in a hurry, order what you want. I ordered mine because I was looking for a Custom trim level Trail Boss. I ended up going with the 6.2. Had I known gas prices were going to spike, the diesel would have been nice, but was not available on the Custom trim in 21. Everybody tells horror stories of how long it took when they ordered. Mine showed up in 5 weeks! It arrived 5/20/21.

The value between new vs. used is still too close.. the resale value is very strong. I would not consider a used truck.

I would not buy used if you can afford new. I work for a company who leases a lot of cars for upper management and VP level employees and vehicles that require premium fuel get regular fuel, oil change intervals are not done in a proper mileage and when I ask why they say "It's a 3 yr lease, I don't care, I won't have it anymore it'll won't be my problem". I also had a friend who leased vehicles, refused to change the oil, 3 out of 5 of his vehicles ended up blowing the engine due to never doing an oil change or even checking the oil. Too many people feel that short term vehicles do not need to be taken care of, I've seen it way too much so in my opinion unless you can get service records on a used vehicle or know the person whom you are buying it from I wouldn't touch a used vehicle.

Just my .02 for the .01 it's worth.

PS I traded my 2019 High Country in February of this year and the dealer was asking $59,995.00 with 40k miles on it. I paid 60k (discounted) in December 2018 for it, used prices on these trucks are still very high.

You should see my brother-in-law drive a rental or a loaner. Mans in his 60's. :nonod:

He drives nothing with my name on it. (anymore). Program cars are a gamble.

My very good friend is still waiting for his '23 SLT to come in that was ordered in Feb. I let him ride in my 23 just so he know what his '24 will be like 😂...

So many unknown variables such as dealer actually having allocations and certain options on constraint. Its hard to get a straight answer. Mine was ordered in Feb, the dealer assigned an allocation in March and I picked it up 8 weeks later. The only thing I dropped was the running boards and I am actually glad I did since I like the ones I bought and put on myself better than the factory ones (at half the price)

Yup.. I really don't know why the dealer just hasn't done a dealer trade either?? His pickups are never off the popular path for options.
