is there any benefit from switching from the ac delco PF48 to the PF63 (taller filter)?  any pros or cons?

Probably not. Purolator Boss or One.

Just a larger area to collect contaminates.  I use the largest filter I can but that is just me.

PF63 has a higher bypass pressure too, 22psi vs 15psi in the PF48.

Some interesting thought on running the PF63 however.  We've had some 07-13 with the dreaded P0521 oil pressure code in where we changed the oil, filter and oil pressure sensor, only for them to come back with that code within 2000-5000mi.  Sensors were fine, oil pressure tested with a pressure test gauge were fine, so we started to toss PF63s on the ones we had acting up.  None of them came back.  Almost as if those on longer drain intervals, the PF48s bypass early or cause some sort of scenario where its causing low oil pressure at the sensor.
