Hey Denali Owners

Would some of you be kind enough to share you Max payload and Tongue weight limits on your 1500 Denali's

Wondering what the general average is for non-Max Trailer package equipped trucks in this trim.

Cheers

I have max payload of 1489 with my pretty much maxed out Denali Ultimate.

Half tons really can't tow much even though they have plenty of pulling power. Car trailers, small boats, utility trailers is about it as far as I'm concerned. I always went 3/4 ton when I was towing alot.

I agree with Jus Cruisin

What are you wanting to tow?

Which engine an box are you considering?

Presumably the rating question is because proposed trailer is fairly large or heavy.

For 2024 models...(but '23's likely the same)

1500 Denali's can't get max tow (NHT)

1500 Denali's can't get Z71 or X31

They can be short box or standard box.

If you're thinking Carbonpro box, they are only available as shortbox.

Payload is GVWR minus weight of truck, so payload changes with options installed.

Engine choice will change weight so also payload.

'Regular' Denali can be 5.3, 6.2 or 3.0.  Ultimate can be 6.2 or 3.0.

Mines a '23, 3.0, 4wd, standard (6'6') box, 275/60R20

From labels:

GVWR 7200

GCWR 15000

RGAWR 3800

FGAWR 3800

Curb weight 5814

Max Payload 1386    (1386 is listed on label -- but it's also GVWR - Curb weight)

SAE J2807 trailer weight rating (TWR) for vehicle configuration:

Conv trailer

 -TWR 8700

- Tongue 870

Gooseneck trailer

- TWR 6000

-max tongue 900

Towing a 25ft Airstream.

5700 lbs- Dry Weight

7000 lbs Fully loaded.

837 lbs Tongue weight

I currently own a 2021 5.2 Sierra 1500 X31 with the 5.3 / 10 Speed.  The stickered max payload is 1683 LBS with a max tongue weight of 930 LBS. I have pulled roughly 8K miles with this setup without issue, Infact I am very impressed overall. But I know I am close on the payload numbers.

837 lbs Trailer Tongue

83 lbs Weight Distribution Hitch

100 lbs cargo in truck bed

640 lbs Passengers

1660 lbs total.

The reason for me asking this question > Really like the new facelift, both interior and exterior but not overly keen on the SLT trim in the new facelift, really like the Denali package.  But as other have mentioned so far, the payload limits on the Denali are less than available on the SLT trim in most cases. Unless there is a specific build that gets payload numbers closer to what i have.

I wasn't aware the Max Tow Pkg was not an available option on the Denali's - That counts that out.

Fully aware all payload concerns with this would be alleviated if I jump up to a HD truck.  I haven't ruled that out yet. But I daily drive my current truck and get very decent MPG, I can park it in most places without concern, it's just a very easy truck to live with day to day. If I move into a HD truck, I have to then deal with pretty terrible MPG and parking will be a nightmare.

One way I could at least remove the MPG concern is move up to a Duramax 6.6 but then with that comes additional upfront purchase cost and the price of Diesel/Maintenance also. All of these factors pushing me to explore all options on the 1500 before I rule it out.

I decided to get a new 1500 last year. At first I looked at the Denali, but the lack of max trailering was a deal breaker.  I ended up with a Silverado 1500 LTZ 4x4 short bed with 6.2, multiflex tailgate, tech package, and max trailering.  I skipped the sunroof, bed liner and running boards.  The payload sticker says 1826 pounds.  The truck pulls very well, much better than my 2010 Yukon Denali AWD 6.2 that also had max trailering.

I've crossed the continental divide in Colorado four times so far and I'm very impressed the cooling system.  Towing my 7100 pound TT (also a 25 foot AS) from Copper Mountain to the Eisenhower tunnel, my Yukon's tranny temp went from 150 at the Dillon exit to 250 at the tunnel.  I did the same trip this year in the SIlverado, the tranny temp went from 136 to 172!

If you do go for the Denali, don't forget the carbonPro bed gives you some extra payload.

By the way, the 837 pound tongue weight quoted by Airstream is not a real-world number.  My 25FB's tongue weight fully loaded for a long trip is over 1100 pounds.  (I have added four solar panels, a 1000 watt inverter, and replaced the original batteries with a pair of group 27 AGMs; but even without those changes, I'd probably be over 1000 pounds)

Yes, figured it would be over the published Payload weight from AS but I also switched out to batteries to Lithium. I don't store much in the front exterior storage locker etc, but you are probably right, and I am over the 837 number.

The Denali trim if staying with a Sierra is the only way I go if upgrading from my 2021 SLT in the half ton class.  Thats an impressive payload number you are getting there with the Silverado.

I will have to look into the Carbon Pro bed. Not sure how much weight that would save in Payload.

CarbonPro box is 60lbs lighter than the standard steel 5ft8in box.  Plus being composite, it has no need for a drop in or spray on bedliner so there's another 20-30lbs saved over a steel box with a drop in or spray in.
