Hi, all.

Just traded my 2015 Crew Cab 4x4 for a 2024 and am looking to put side steps on. I had the heavier chrome steps on the 2015 and they held up really well over 100k of ownership. The new truck is a Z71 which makes the entry height just a touch higher and I'm looking for a step to provide a little entry/exit assistance while also giving some additional road debris protection. Truck is Summit White with any trim being black, so I have been looking at the OEM steps in black but am wondering if there are other good options to consider.

Also, I have a few hundred in rewards points that I can apply toward the purchase cost, so any other steps I would look at should likely be at least that much -less- than the OEM ones unless there's a really good reason to spend more. I live in the rust belt, so fixed position steps only. :)

TIA!

Use them points!

I'm a fan of the factory 6 inch chrome boards myself.  The black ones can be hit or miss.  Seen some that hold up fine, others all the paint or whatever they finish them with all blasted off.  Another good option, although very $$$ are the high clearance steps they make.  Those are done in some sort of spray on bedliner type finish.

Thanks. I had the chrome for 8+ years / 100k on the truck I just traded. Generally, they held up well but they were started to show some corrosion coming through from underneath on the driver's side. For this truck, I was hoping to go all black for aesthetic purposes because there is no chrome otherwise on the truck (last truck had chrome trim, chrome bumpers, etc.) but I know what you're talking about with the black finish on some. I'll have to look a little deeper into the finish on them.

As far as the high clearance, I need them lower to the ground. This is a Z71, so it sits a touch higher than the one I traded and having the steps on that one was super useful for entering and exiting without issues due to step-in height. I would expect the high clearance ones would be less helpful because they will be higher up... no?

I put the GM black plastic full length boards on my '23 Z71 crew. Used my buying points to lower the price. I'm in a salt zone and wanted the plastic. Corrosion inhibiter on the brackets. Perfect fit and solo installed both in a little over an hour.

Thanks guys.

@repairman54 - Plastic? You have a link for them? I'd be interested to take a peek. Everything I see currently from GM is aluminum, so it's possible they aren't offering that version any more. I've been considering a version of these (either wheel-to-wheel or just under the cab - not sure yet):

Side Steps

It's power boards for me. Don't care where I live. I just don't like the look of trucks with pontoons/outriggers hanging off the sides.

On my last truck (2021 Trail Boss). I went to a few dealers in my area and just rolled thru their car lots to see what different footboards were on the trucks and what they looked like on the vehicles. I wound up getting the off road High Clearance footboards. They look the best IMHO and I swapped them over to my 23 T.B. They have held up very well here in Salt City Minnesota.

Oops my bad. Not all plastic. The GM boards I put on are aluminum with a black plastic coating on them.

I wanted rust resistance and a factory fit with factory strength. 4 mounting brackets also.  Part No.: 84676694

Awesome... These are the ones I had been most interested in because of size, shape (relatively flat), offering some lower body protection from rocks and such, as well as being all black against the white truck.

Appreciate you chiming in, but I had steps put on already. Went with the all-black OEM ones (fixed - the power steps are 100% no-go here in the rust belt).
