OK I know it's a tank and not sports car😇

I know in the earlier years (2014 - xxxx) there was a method to maximize acceleration on launce and reduce wheel spin.  Like switch to 4 wheel low, turn off traction control.  Hold the brake while applying light throttle then floor it and let off the brake.  After the 1-2 shift, switch back to 2 wheel drive on the fly.  Worked great.

but I see on the 2023 you must shift to neutral to get out of 4 wheel drive.  any other tried and tested methods to improve launce acceleration?

No desire to find out/test variables but I would figure 4a would give the best times. If you click it into sport mode I would think it would automatically switch into 4a.i haven't even tried sport in mine. Don't much care what it'll do because one, disappointing and two, what's the point.

Considering that most new trucks are faster than the factory performance vehicles I was able to drive when I started out. The first thing I looked for is the car and driver review 0-60 and 1/4 mile times. Up to my 14 GMC you hold the button with the sliding sign on it for a few seconds. Hit the brake and gas and let her rip. If it spins too much a little less gas. Usually if your wheel speed hits 30 mph spinning the control will interfere anyway. If you’re inexperienced at drifting you wouldn’t want to spin faster. Just look on mustang wrecks on the net. You’re better off controlling with your foot on the gas than using 4wd it robs HP unless you’re highly modified. I’ve done all the above.

4LO?  You can't use 4LO without neutral in ANY of the trucks.  There's no way in a K2XX so 2014-2019 truck that you could go from 4LO to 2HI or 4HI/4A without shifting the transmission into neutral, or any other year for that matter.

4A and then switching to 2HI is an option.

What I've found best however was leave it in 2HI, turn off traction control, and give the pedal a smooth but swift push to the floor.  If you just straight mash the pedal, you will hit the torque management bog hard before it uncorks the engine.

Brake torquing will really get that torque management working and will bog worse.

Negative.  Sport mode changes shift points and steering feel.  It does not activate 4A or 4HI.  That's via the transfer case selector switch.

4H launch might work for you, but trying to shift transfer case from low to high at speed will end badly.

I've been running nothing but GMC 4wd pickups since I switched to 4wd's in 1995.

Every single one could only be shifted between Hi and Low coasting at creep speed or zero speed.

As an example, I happen to have a pdf for the 2004 Hi-Lo shift instructions:

Thanks guys.  My 2014 did have a custom tune with toque management reduced.  I may be mistaken on starting 4x4 low then switching on the fly to 2 wheel after the 1-2 shift.  Maybe I was starting in 4 hi but I sure seem to remember it being 4 lo with a hellation launce.  I'll go back and try to find that info.

For the new trucks it seems a launce in 4 auto might work.  After the initial launch it should switch to 2 wheel automatically.  Just don't want to leave important parts on the road behind me.

I went way back to my Denalitrucks.com post and found it.  I was starting in 4x4 hi then switching to 2 wd after the 1-2.   did not have to shift to neutral.  seems I recall I may have had to let off the throttle for a split second for it to shift back to 2 wd.    Here's my times back then.  My screen name was 0-60N4 (as you may have guessed, from my Typhoon tag)

I have found, traction control off, ESC off Sport mode and 4wd auto mode and aired down to 15-20lbs on the rear to be most effective for the best 0-60 times.

I believe that Off road mode would do you well also.

Mash it and hold it.

I would NEVER consider mashing it to the floor in 4 lo as the torque multiplication IMO could cause catastrophic damage.

This is just based upon my own experience and no scientific testing.

As I said I've never put mine in sport mode. I was using my Ford F150 experience. When you put an F150 into Sport, it also switches into 4A. Actually surprised that GM doesn't program that into Sport.

Launching in 4H and shifting to 2H on the fly is not going to happen as the drivetrain is under load it won't go the 2H until the load is off of the drivetrain like letting off the throttle. Yes you can push the button but the shift wont happen until the load is removed.

What kind of 0-60 do you get with the 6.2L? Just curious

(the link you posted requires login just to view so I couldn't see...)

I talked to a guy once with a heavily modified K2 who said 4hi then shift to 2hi after the launch worked best for him. No idea if that would hold true for a T1. I suspect 4A or 4HI would be just about necessary for me from a standstill.

I have a Trail Boss Custom with the 6.2 and it doesn't have any drive modes. I tried 2WD high just resulted in blowing the tires off or bogging depending if I mashed the pedal or eased into it. Adjusting tire pressure and heating the tires did nothing either. My best 1/4 time was in 4 auto with the ESC and traction off and just barely holding the brake to keep it on the line with my left foot and then mashing the gas and letting off the brake when the light changes. Brake torquing does nothing to help with all the modern electronics. This might have helped in days past when you had a high stall converter and were trying to get the engine up into the peak torque range on launch.

on my 2014:

I got the Diablosport In-Tune with a custom tune from Lew. Also did some mods to the air box and installed a K&N drop in filter and replaced the muffler with two in-line Magaflow straight thru mufflers.

base line performance before:

0-60 mph = 6.06 sec
60 ft. time = 2.7 sec.
1/8 mile = 10.02 sec.
1/4 mile g-tac = 14.76 sec.
1/4 mile G-Tech accel. = 14.92
trap speed 100 mph
horse power = 285 from G-Tech accelerometer (may be a low number)
mpg = 22 average for 3.4 mile at 60 mph cruise - avg. 2-way.
sound level 57 dB ave, 62 dB max in the cab at 60 mph cruise

After:

Fuel consumption out and back to my test area:
out 23.0 back 22.3 = average 22.7

G-Tech horsepower 343 hp.
0-60 mph = 5.91 sec. backed up with a G-Tech 0-60 mph of 5.93 sec and another gtac 5.91 sec.
60 foot time = 2.70 sec
0-100 mph = 13.01 sec
1/8 mile = 9.52 @ 82mph
1/4 mile = 14.33 sec @ 104 mph.
sound level 57 dB ave, 62 dB max - unchanged

And just for fun, a 0-60 mph launch in 4 wheel drive, switching back to 2 wheel drive after the launch, resulted in a 0-60 mph of 5.59 sec and a 60' time of 2.38 sec. I really didn't hammer it too hard either.

If you'd have typed it once I wouldn't have asked.  What is "launce"?

If "launch", can't believe I'm reading this on this forum.  You shoulda gone electric.
