Well, my truck has its first bit of minor damage after visiting Home Depot today. Family and I were walking out to my truck parked pretty far away, when a 2010 1500 silverado runs right into my truck, right in front of me. Loudest plastic cracking noise ever 🤣🤦🏼‍♂️.

I give my 6 year olds hand off to my wife and run up to the truck with my hands up in the air mouthing, "what the heck?"

Old Vietnam Vet gets out "Vet plates" and he goes, did I hit your truck? I said "yep" and we walk over. Turns out, most of the plastic cracking was his passenger mirror going into and under my passenger mirror. No other body damage thank God. My mirror is all scratched up underneath and a few tabs popped out.

I keep from cussing and the guy is apologetic, but a bit dismissive. My extreme temper (harnessed and kept in check since I have had a family) was ready to rip. I stopped myself, took a step back, introduced myself and shook the man's hand. My son, now in the truck with my 2 year old daughter, told my wife "that's nice, dad has a new friend! They are shaking hands!"

We exchanged phone numbers and I told him look, I'll call around Monday and see what a new mirror would be - not worth going through insurance. He said he is a man of his word and will pay whatever it is.

I then thanked him for his service and come to find out, he was a marine from Arkansas in Vietnam just like my recently passed away father-in-law. I hope he will follow through and pony up for a new mirror, if not, just glad no one was hurt and I didn't buy that AT4 I wanted 🤣🤣🤣.

I wished him a Merry Christmas and he gave me a heartfelt embrace. Maybe I am a sucker 🤔🤣. We shall see! He did make one comment that got me irked... looked at me and said my mirror was "in the other parking spot." 🙃 I looked at him and the 800 other open parking spaces closer to the door and said, "good thing this is the last spot in the parking lot!"

This was one of the ONLY times I didn't fold my mirrors in. Lesson learned.

Since we’re posting pics from Home Depot. Here’s mine today. 1,400lbs and no noticeable squat.

Anytime I have some good weight in the back, truck rides so nice!

Back in 2007 when I drove cross country to buy an rx7, my buddy and I drove my 2005 duramax unloaded to pick it up. We bought a crappy inflatable mattress and filled it with water so we had a smooth ride out to pick up the car 😬

That's because the poor mans model has no rear suspension.  🤣

Yeah it really helped. Super easy to just drain it once we hooked up the trailer!

Cinder blocks rest in-between the axle and frame of the truck shimmed with EBT cards 😜

It’s the P/M. Poverty model.

it has cinder blocks and thick oak tree stumps with government cheese for a bit of suspension lol

I borrowed a lift from a friend which helps on the ceiling. The walls aren’t bad. They be carried a total of about 55 sheets downstairs by myself though. Fun

I forget what trim level you have.  Are those the power mirrors?  If so, set them to fold automatically on lock in the infotainment system.  That's super handy.

When I was growing up in Northern Maine my aunt used to share the government cheese with us.  That stuff made the best grilled cheese sandwiches on earth!!

I second that "great advice" and will be checking that option in my 2023 LTZ first thing tomorrow morning.

Good thing he was right there when it happened as most people today would just pull away an take the chance on nobody seeing it.

Thanks for the tips!
