Now that i’m over 30 days I have officially requested a buyback. GM called today to let me know they would have an answer by this Thursday. Per AZ lemon law they dont have any reason to deny my request but we’ll see. Trying to work through this directly with GM but if things get bumpy i’ll just turn it over to a lemon law attorney.

After being promised I would hear back no later than today on my lemon law claim GM did not contact me nor did they return my call today. Not surprised really. They are doing a great job of killing off a life long customer who was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. I guess i’ll just go the lemon law attorney route.

Same problem here on my 2024 GMC sierra 1500 10spd 12,000 miles. On Tuesday morning  block away from my hotel check engine light came on and engine power was reduced message. Got it back to my hotel since dealership wasn't open yet and it wouldn't go into park or reverse. Had to put on my emergency parking brake and it sat for 2 hours until they were open. Drove it 3 miles to dealership and it was shifting fine this time including park and reverse. Got a call back on Thursday saying my valve body needs to get replaced but is on backorder🤦‍♂️. I told them i needed a truck to drive on my job sites and they gave me a loaner thru hertz which was a f150 since dealership didn't have anything available. After reading everyone's experience I really hope it doesn't sit there for 3 months. Do they order the new one that was fixed or should i be worried about getting the original and be back to square one? Will update as I hear from them.

I have a 2024 Silverado LT 5.3L V8. Bought it new 5 months ago, 6600 miles. Couldn’t reverse or shift out of 1st. Dealer called today said it needs a new valve body, b/o 2 weeks to 3 months. They are getting me a loaner suv but very disheartening.

Received word last Friday (12/06/24) that my valve body has finally been received at the dealer.  Over 15 weeks, 108 days.  Now I'm waiting for the part to be installed and get my truck back.

I have had rental vehicles or a dealer loaner this entire time and I did receive a check from GM Customer Service to cover 2  months of truck payments.  I asked for more but was denied.  Fingers crossed this solves my issue.

Good luck to those of you still waiting for parts!

Just signed up to be a part of all the fun you folks are having. 2023 HC with 20K miles on it. On 11/30 received the dreaded "Reduced Power" message, quickly followed by "Service Transmission Now Unable to Shift Soon", which was quickly followed by "Service Transmission". Dropped it at the dealer on 12/1 and the SA advised they are pretty backed up with transmission work. Shocking.

Received a text from the SA today, 12/12, saying they were finally able to diagnose the problem and it needs a VB, the part is on BO, no ETA. Super.

I'll go through the drill of opening a case with GM and will probably reach out to NHTSA to file a complaint.

BTW, since most here are of the same mind that GM should perhaps be issuing a recall everyone can do their part towards that end by filing a complaint with NHTSA. Needless to say, NHTSA is unlikely to act based on only a handful of complaints, but if they are flooded with them they're more likely to at least start looking. Here's their main page; Check for Recalls: Vehicle, Car Seat, Tire, Equipment | NHTSA

Once there look at the top right corner and click on "Report a Safety Problem" You'll need your VIN. When presented with the list of available problem areas choose "Power Train".

Thanks for the walkthrough, Dan. I encourage all of us to do this. Although, GM’s recall “fix” for the previous model years is to add software that alerts the driver to take the truck in to service approx 10K miles before it will fail. I presume GM will then order a new valve body, punch in something via computers at the service center to acknowledge the message to return the truck to full power, and then you’re back driving while the valve body is on order. I guess it’s better than most experiences here being without the truck for 3 months, but still…what a cluster.

It is a frustrating situation, Michael. While I understand that sometimes a particular part may need to be ordered from GM by the dealer, given the magnitude of this issue and knowing GM is aware of it, the lack of an ETA is vexing. I mean, someone at GM knows when replacement valve bodies will be produced and shipped. I have to guess that the dealers don't want customer vehicles piling up in their lots for weeks so the dealers should be hounding GM too. I would hope they are.

I did open a case with GM Customer Service via email, and they have replied twice. While they did not provide an ETA they did say they'd contact the servicing dealer on my behalf. I received that email this past Friday evening but nothing more as of this writing. I also asked about the part numbers for the valve body, old and new, because I'd like to verify the newest is installed, but they referred me to the dealer.

Same deal with my 2020 Silverado 6.2L, which I just bought on October 6 and 20 days later started having tranny issues it’s been at the dealership since November 6, 2024 for valve body issue and they don’t know when part will arrive. I have a rental from dealership but really missed what I brought

Adding my past experience to this thread: the valve body on my 2020 w/ the DM2 was replaced in 08/2023 @ 18k or 20k miles. I guess I should count myself lucky that it failed before the bigger batch of failures, since I was only out of it for a week or two.

I came back to the forum to see what's up after I got the recall notice... I'm wondering how this will all be handled from a warranty standpoint. This is a known issue and the recall doesn't actually fix anything... Are we gonna be left out to dry when this happens again?

The 10 speed was a joint project with Ford, if I recall correctly. I wonder if they're seeing issues as well, or if it's a GM specific issue.

Ford is having issues with the 10 speed also. My neighbor had a F-250 with the 10 speed after 2 transmissions replaced under warranty he had the problem again for the 3rd time and after getting it back he dumped it.

Steve, I had my 2023 for less than 24 hours before the failure. I feel your pain. Did you open a case with GM? Send an email to [email protected], include your VIN, name and location of the dealer the truck is at, and request a case be opened.

DD, what recall notice are you referring to? From what I've read there doesn't appear to be an active recall for the 10 speeds.

Dan

The GM recall is for Diesel engines only. The tranny is different in the gassers. The recall does not fix the problem, it just puts the truck into limp mode prior to a valve body failure. A complete waste of time.
