GM to recall hd's for tailgate dropping...

My understanding is they are disable the button on the tailgate and you will only be able to drop your tailgate using your Fob until the new switches become available. We have to have 75% of parts available before we can issue a recall fix. Supplier is going to have to build extra tools to meet the demand. All tailgates in a certain time window will be recalled except manual and power up/down.

What part/parts are being replaced?

I can see new tooling being required to supply, what, 3 or 4 years worth of these trucks on the road.

If it has the power up/down option it is not affected?

I can't believe a $100000+ truck doesn't have a sensor to let you know if your tailgate is open like my RAM did

The recall for US was announced a couple hours ago. It should announce some of your questions.

It's not in the recall but it could have an issue. It has a sensor to alert the driver when down.

I am in Canada so pricing is quite a bit different than the US. There was an option for a power up an down on the HD Pickups? I only thought that there was the release to open it. Was it with the standard tailgate only ?

Mine has power up and down, standard tailgate. And it definitely alerts you if it is not closed. 2020 HC.

Chevy had the power up/down tailgate and GMC had the Multipro gate.

Just got my letter in the mail for the tailgate. Letter states no fix yet and to make sure tailgate is closed before driving. Thanks GM! What would I do without that nugget of wisdom.

It states it’s due to water getting into the tailgate and possibly creating a short circuit. Hmmm, wonder how the water is getting in? It’s almost as if they purposely drilled two holes right over the switch assembly.

Just for the heck of it, I’ll be setting up my cargo net right inside the tailgate so in the very off chance it drops, nothing can come out.

I have the multi-flex tailgate and according to the MyChevy website my truck has the recall. I haven't experienced the tailgate opening on it's own yet, but I've only had the truck a couple of months. I decided to nip it in the bud with some black silicone. I'll trim it with a razor blade once it's good and dry.

That’s more work than was necessary. Shoulda just used your finger and wiped it flush. It’s a 2 second job.
