I have 2015 Silverado LTZ 4 door, 4 X 4. I have RPO code KNP Transmission Cooler. Now the "cooler" most automatics have is a pipe in the radiator tank and there is no code for that; it's part of the Transmission standard equipment. Can I assume this is a separate cooler (like a little radiator?) Where is it? I see nothing like a GM tranny cooler I have seen on the '04 S 10s... I looked through the grill....

I'm not sure about your '15 but my '17 LTZ wt 5.3L & 6 speed 6L80 has the cooler intergrated into the top potion of the A/C condensor. No separate cooler like in the past and there is a transmission thermostat valve on the side of the transmission, which I disabled via the 'pill flip'.

2015 will go transmission to radiator, radiator out to the aux cooler that is part of the AC condenser then back to the transmission.    

 

Should look like this:

Enters bottom driver's side of the rad from the out flow line, flows to the top and exits at the top out to the aux via #14, then comes out of pipe #5 in the drawing and connects back to the transmission input line.

No.  They only use the condenser combi cooler for cooling the transmission.  They removed the radiator from the cooling path.  When you pill flip or surecool these, they run much cooler than the 14-16 trucks above.  Struggle to get above 100-110F in the winter, 130-145F in the summer (on a known good transmission that isn't slipping).  Mine wouldn't get over 100F in the winter, summer I could beat the snot out of it on a 90 degree day and wouldn't break 145F.

 My cooler lines go to the side tank closest to the engine; I believe that's the radiator as i have never seen a condenser with side tanks like a radiator does. Pics later today.

Look at that picture again.  Condenser, the top 1/5-1/4 of it is the transmission cooler.  The rest of it is all for the AC operation.  Its called a Combi Cooler.  All of the V8s 14-19 use this.

So then there's NO WAY I can have engine coolant in my tranny fluid? 

 

As you can see, I have no more white streaks. I have beautiful transmission fluid!

You could if the radiator is leaking into the transmission cooler tank in the radiator.  

 

That just looks like old ATF.  does it smell like coolant?

Well, I have not seen what's shown here, Just what you can see from the engine side of the radiator when it's all installed. The fluid is a week old, it's Dexron VI filtered through an AC Delco tranny filter. I hope to get a Purolator filter (they are the finest filtering filter on the US market (except for maybe Amsoil by-pass filter); It's hard to find a Purolator dealer, Tractor Supply Company is one, I assume the Purolator name is well known in the farming community. Anyway...Thanks for your input and for clarifying what I have in my new to me truck!

I am currently pulling the motor from my 14 and I am looking to delete the factory trans cooling system completely and run a separate cooler in the grill with an improved racing thermostat on the trans.  Do you know, will a 2017 5.7 radiator fit in my 2014 perfectly?  My OEM rad has 90k miles on it and I know they are known to leak; I figured while I am in there, I will replace it with a new one.  I won't need the trans cooling part of the 2014 radiator anymore so I am hoping a 2017 will bolt right in.

a "racing" thermostat?  somebody has too much money...  Just flip the pill so all the fluid goes through the cooler all the time, or use the lower temp thermostat from gm.

 The brand is "improved racing", it's not a racing thermostat.  What part of "I am looking to delete the factory trans cooling system completely" do you not comprehend?  What I am doing costs less than $300 total, worry about your own money.  I asked about the radiator, if you have no input on that, then mind your business.

    • No such thing as regenerative braking on a pure ICE vehicle.     Regenerative braking is the re-capture of energy from electric motors and stores it in the battery pack.  So hybrids, PHEV and EVs have regenerative braking.     What you are seeing is the charging system changing modes is all.  Its likely entering charge mode for some sort of reason is all.  All of the charging modes will be listed below.   As for L10 vs D.  L10 turns off automatic grade braking.  L10 puts you in control of grade downshifts where in D it will automatically do it based on brake pedal position and other factors.  Otherwise L10 and D drive exactly the same aside from that one aspect.    Battery Sulfation Mode The BCM will enter this mode when the interpreted Generator output voltage is less than 13.2 V for 45 minutes. When this condition exists the BCM will enter Charge Mode for 2–3 minutes. The BCM will then determine which mode to enter depending on voltage requirements.   Charge Mode The BCM will enter Charge Mode when ever one of the following conditions are met:   Windshield wipers are ON for more than 3 s. Climate Control Voltage Boost Mode Request is true, as sensed by the HVAC control module via serial data. High speed cooling fan, rear defogger, and HVAC high speed blower operation can cause the BCM to enter the Charge Mode. The estimated battery temperature is less than 0°C (32°F). Battery State of Charge is less than 80%. Vehicle speed is greater than 145 km/h (90 mph) A current sensor malfunction exists. System voltage is determined to be below 12.56 V When any one of these conditions is met, the system will set targeted generator output voltage to a charging voltage between 13.9–15.5 V, depending on the battery state of charge and estimated battery temperature.   Fuel Economy Mode The BCM will enter Fuel Economy Mode when the estimated battery temperature is at least 0°C (32°F) but less than or equal to 80°C (176°F), the calculated battery current is less than 15 A and greater than −8 A, and the battery state-of-charge is greater than or equal to 80%. Its targeted generator output voltage is the open circuit voltage of the battery and can be between 12.5–13.1 V. When fuel economy mode is active, the generator is not charging, only maintaining open circuit battery voltage. The BCM will exit this mode and enter Charge Mode when any of the conditions described above are present.   Headlamp Mode The BCM will enter Headlamp Mode when ever the head lamps are ON (high or low beams). Voltage will be regulated between 13.9–14.5 V.   Start Up Mode When the engine is started the BCM sets a targeted generator output voltage of 14.5 V for 30 s.   Tow/Haul Mode (if applicable) Pressing the Tow/Haul Mode button located on the center stack, the vehicle system voltage is raised and the remote (non-vehicle) battery will be charged. Having the headlamps on will raise the system voltage and if the Tow/Haul button is applied it will not serve any purpose. The voltage is regulated between 13.9-14.5 V.      
    • Hello from Australia Just sharing that there is now a way to delete the active shutters entirely with just a plug in module. Opens up tons of room to light bars etc.
    • I have an observation and a question... 1) I watch the voltage closely because I have had to dial in the cut-in/cut-out voltages of the battery separator to my camper.  The "smart" charging drives me nuts.  Anyway, I noticed that when coasting for a while, and especially if lightly using the brakes (though not necessary), the voltage goes up from mid/high-13 volts to mid/high-14 volts.  Then it drops back down after stopping or going again.  Consistently!   The only explanation I can come up with is REGENERATIVE BRAKING!  Well, maybe that's a little bit of an exaggeration, but it's certainly free extra battery charging.   2) Driving on mountain roads I will use L and vary the max gear.  Things straighten out and I end up in L10.  Sometimes I leave it there for a while.  Is there any difference between L10 and D?   
    • Do you think this width might affect the chalk test with a higher pressure closer to 65psi? I think lowering the pressure makes sense to get the tread to lay flatter
