dfanzz01 Posted February 26, 2025 Posted February 26, 2025 Hello- Can anyone confirm if we are able to drop the transmission pan without lowering the exhaust on a 2021 5.3 with an 8 speed? Dealer is quoting $700 which is a tough pill to swallow. I've searched all over but the only videos are for the 10 speed. I was wondering if with the 8 speed we could avoid dropping the exhaust? Thanks! 1
81mmcat Posted March 13, 2025 Posted March 13, 2025 only feed back i have is on a 2019 gmc sierra ( should be the same) 5.3/ 8-speed, the exhaust had to be moved to drop pan.
mjm-1957 Posted March 13, 2025 Posted March 13, 2025 You can get the pan off on the 8 speed without dropping the exhaust if it doesn't have the start stop horse ******.The accumulator sits right at the back of the valve body and prevents you from getting the pan down..Been a line mechanic at a GMC buick dealer for 49 years and have done many, many internal wiring harnesses and valve bodies on them.. 10 speed is a different story.Exhaust must be dropped to get that pan off. 1
Gangly Posted April 15, 2025 Posted April 15, 2025 you can get it down without removing the exhaust. A simple pry bar will allow you just enough room to lower the exhaust and allow the lip of the tranny pan to get clear.
BlancoSilverado Posted April 15, 2025 Posted April 15, 2025 I would say if you do it yourself, pull the exhaust, you will need the the new gaskets for the exhaust. I ended up adding V-bands to the exhaust and a B&M trans pan.
