Hey, looking at two trucks, a 2021 gmc 2500hd crew cab sle 65k miles, and a 2024 gmc 2500hd double cab sle 75k miles.  Both about the same price.  I'm not sure if I would be disappointed in the Double Cab after having my 2018 1500 crew cab.  We have 1 teenage Grandchild, and occasionally a few Grandchildren, so not sure if that makes a difference.

Appreciate your thoughts,

Are these gas or diesel?

Things to consider...

The crew will allow for ample room for your growing grandchildren.

The '21 has the 6 speed trans.

The '24 has the 10 speed (do some research on the '24 10 speed)

The crew has 10K miles less.

Are they one owner?

Overall condition?

Service records?

How were they taken care of....(may be the most important thing to consider)?

I've had a extended cab (now dubbed a double cab) and have had 2 crew cabs since. My current '21 Duramax has the 10 speed and it's just me and the wife 95% of the time and I would never go back. Plus, IMO the resale value on a crew cab is going to be better due to demand and popularity.

If the grandkids are tall or you want them to be comfortable, get the crew.  The current double cabs are larger than the last gen by a bit but its still not a crew.  Plus the new crews are larger than your 2018 and more roomy.

Just yesterday I saw a truck identical to mine except it was the double cab. It looked tiny compared to my cc. And a bit odd vs the cc too imo having the door handles so close together.

I transport my kids all the time and would never want to have a double cab. It’s the only vehicle where they aren’t kicking the back of my seat.

This current generation crew cab gives that room which the prior cc did not have, never mind the double cab. The seating/leg room for taller adults just isn't there in a double cab and the doors are narrow as well, I looked at one and it just felt awkward and not what I was after. Even though I probably will rarely have passengers in the rear seat, I wanted that true crew cab space for items such as grocery bags sitting on the floor ahead of the seat or luggage, camping items etc. I was spending way too much money anyway as per the theme these days to buy a truck so wasn't about to short myself on cab room. I've used a Chev extended cab for many years that has no access doors at all and I swore next time it would be a crew cab. However if total over all length is a persons major hangup and are not that concerned with maximum room in the rear seat, I can see going down that road but I sure get the feeling that the resale is more touchy as there are fewer buyers out there looking for double cabs has been my take on it.

Thank You everyone, I took your comments with great respect, and I too like the crewcab. But in the end I choose the 2024 gmc doublecab sle for the upgraded improvements and style.

I already miss not having the LTZ Package with power folding mirrors and comfortable leather seats on my 2018 1500 (these 2500 seats are terrible hard, Not comfortable).

Seems to be enough room for grandchildren, we will see.

One thing I'd really enjoy about a Double Cab is the shorter doors. Easier to throw stuff in the back seat in a parking lot with cars parked next to you.

Generally speaking my kids were transported in cars mostly large two doors. Impalas. Some station wagons Oldsmobile diesel, I know nightmare. I favored extended cabs in trucks when they became available. My kids had no problem in the back of those. I usually only had one helper on my crew. Shorter trucks with extended cabs and short beds were easier to use on pipelines. My last new truck didn’t come with an extended cab, they just turned the doors around. I rather have the back door handles hidden. I like the extended cab look with the short bed. The few inches in the back didn’t seem to matter for comfort. I mean look at the difference.

You`ll have a longer bed for those times you carry something a little longer and not have to have the tailgate open. They are trucks after all.🙂
