There hasn't been a glovebox light for like 30 years.  Do you really think they'd add one now?

GMC has been revising their trim level names over the past several years. Sierra Pro has taken over the Work Truck/SL trim name; Elevation has replaced the SLE (and with the Premium upgrade, SLT) in the SUV lineup of late; AT4/AT4 Ultimate and Denali/Denali Ultimate have been the top of the line in off road luxury and on-road luxury respectively for the full-size pickups and SUVs. 

 

SL, SLE, SLT nomenclatures are gone in the Sierra truck line. Mark my words.

Is it though?  Like LTZ, not a high take rate.  Current Sierra has AT4, Denali and Elevation as its main bread winners.  Each trim accounting for 25-35% of sales for Sierra.  SLT makes up about 10-15% at best.     

 

Like others have predicted here for GMC, it will be:

 

- Pro (equal to WT Chevy)

 

- Elevation (replaces SLE and SLT)

 

- AT4 (and X)

 

- Denali (and Ultimate).

So after reading the reveal from Chevrolet, I kept asking myself...why did the trim levels change?

 

Here are the official ones:

 

  • Work Truck (WT): The quintessential fleet truck, built with durable, easy-to-clean interiors for commercial or utilitarian use.
  • Custom: A stylish, road-oriented trim that adds a more refined appearance, standard dual exhaust, and modern exterior styling.
  • Custom Trail Boss: An entry-level off-roader featuring a 2-inch factory suspension lift and 34-inch mud-terrain tires on a budget.
  • Silverado: Serving as the new base consumer truck (replacing the previous LT trim), it comes standard with the Z71 off-road package when equipped with 4WD.
  • Trail Boss: Steps up the off-road hardware with the 2-inch lift, 34-inch tires, monotube shocks, an exclusive off-road hood, and more premium interior options.
  • ZR2: The flagship off-roader. It boasts 35-inch mud-terrain tires, Multimatic DSSV dampers, front and rear electronic lockers, forged carbon-fiber interior accents, and an available hardcore Bison Edition (co-developed with AEV).
  • High Country: The pinnacle of luxury. It replaces bright chrome with modern satin chrome, 22-inch wheels, premium leather, real wood interior trim, a panoramic sunroof, and an exclusive front-passenger touchscreen.

As others have stated, why would you want a Silverado - 'Silverado' - wth?? LT needs to remain!!!

 

Also, there will no longer be a dedicated Z71 model.  All 4x4 trucks will have the Z71 package.

Carplay is also something that cannot be removed.  Hopefully it will remain.  

 

I am excited about the 5.7L V8 (350 C.I.D.)  Old school Chevy power.  My only concern is whatever version of AFM/DFM cylinder deactivation.  Too bad that isn't an option a buyer can choose to have or not.

 

I will definitely be stopping by my local dealership when these trucks start showing up.

I really like the look of the new truck.  I have a 2024 Sierra now and will keep it, but I'm jealous that the shifter is back where it should be... on the column!  The goofy shifter in the console is one of the few things I hate about my truck.

I like the console shifter. I like resting my hand on it while I drive.

But having that space for more storage is a valid alternative, and I can see why people don't like them.

 

My plan is to get a new AT4 next summer to replace my 2024 unless there are major problems with the new models (especially the engines).

Then I'm gonna go get the papers, get the papers..... Did GM hire Jimmy Two Times or something to help rename their line????

Same… have been used to reaching in the door or window and using the light switch for years.  On the glass center screen makes zero sense ergonomically but I can only assume some young engineer or accountant justified it by saying they’re automatic and no one uses the switch.

I'm guessing moving the headlight switch to virtual was for cost savings. The headlights are already controlled via the canbus so why not eliminate the need to manufacture a switch and take up real estate.

 

I prefer a physical switch but I also realize I don't actually use it 99% of the time.

 

The 1% of the time I do want it, I'm guessing it's a pain to turn the lights on. Probably 1-2 screens deep in the infotainment just like in the newer Colorados.

Just about every truck I see around town is an SLT or LTZ.

I'd much rather them add back the foot well lights before the dang glovebox one. In the 2 1/2 years I've had my truck. I'd say the glovebox has been open about 10 times.

That's a small dot in the total picture.  They are popular in YOUR town.  

 

They aren't popular where it counts.  Sales data.
