Where do you keep yer toy's?

About 5 years ago I built a 24X28 with 11 foot ceiling's, fully insulated and sheet rocked, heated (15k/20k propane) and cooled (27 K BTU window unit). I did the wiring for the lighting, air compressor, A/C unit, alarm system (tied in to the house alarm), phone, hidden stereo spkr. wiring, and cable TV. Water spigots. I paid to have it put in the dry and I finished the rest myself. The loft has a 4X4 trap door with a 1 ton overhead wench for lifting and lowering the crap stored up there. I have a 200 watt Technics sound system with Advent speakers for rocking, a 20" TV/VCR for racing, football, and the X-Box. Oh yea, a mini fridge for for frosty beverages.

 

I spend a lot of time out there as I only need to go in the house to eat and use the toilet. I have a place to tinker with my H-D, jet-ski, Yukon and the wifes Eldorado ETC. I wanted to build a 28X28 with a toilet, but neighbohood resrictions prevented it (now no longer enforced).

 

I'm fortunate that my house also has an attached 2 car garage (or so they call it) for the wife to keep her car in. That keeps her out of mine.

 

Now don't get the impression that I'm in the money, cause I'm not. I did the work myself as that was the only way I could afford it. Plus, I'm probably older than the majority on the board (47).

 

Warning: Do not think that adding an intercom system is the way to go. It's not... Once she figures out how to use it, she'll drive you nuts.

Sounds like a nice setup. When the folks had a 2 car put up about 12 or so years ago, I put a cable line in the trench with the electric so I'd have cable out there.

 

Of course at my place, we strung string through the studs when the builder let me come in and insulate the walls which allowed for easy installation of many more outlets than the standard one. I've got a compressor on a dedicated circuit in the 4 outlet box in the corner. 4 overhead lights with standard bulbs, 2 tracks with 3 floods on each against the back wall. A Rite Temp gas heater. I skipped cable in mine which is ok, it's attached and I didn't really use the tv much at mom and dad's.

Sounds like a great set up. Nothing like having a place of your own to tinker in.

Nice Set Up!

 

My garage was full with the lawn equipment, watercraft and etc and no room to work. So instead of buying a storage building I decided to buy a 7X14 tandem axle trailer giving me a place to store the lawn equipment and jet-ski in (during the winter months). This way I have a trailer to haul my Harley in on trips, a great furniture hauler, and movable storage.

At home, just a two car attatched garage, nothing fancy at all. I am debating building a 30'x36' away from the house when funds are available, finished off real nice.

 

At the farm, we have a 60'x120' for a main shop/storage and 60'x45' (wish we would have went 60'x60'), insulated, lite, heat, air, everything. Very nice, but not much for my personal use as we are always working on something in there.

 

My garage at home is a bit crowded at times, but it works.
