Power windows keep streaking...

Alright, I'm getting really frustrated with my truck windows. The felt or seals on the inside drivers side has something nasty on it and it keeps streaking my window no matter what I do. I've used windex and and rag to clean the felt/seal and 409 but it still streaks the window BAD and i'm starting to get frustrated. Also since I cleaned it the window doesn't slide against it as smoothly as it did before and it causes the window to vibrate on the way down but not on the way up. Anyone have some ideas? Can I replace the felt/seal without tearing the door apart? is there a cleaner that will work? Thanks in advance. -Tyler

The channel felt is probably contaminated with grease. Use a cleaner that will dissolve grease. I would try Goop hand cleaner paste (available for a buck at most discount auto parts stores. Also, isopropyl alcohol may work. I would use a brush to rub the cleaner in. Then rinse off with water.

is there anyway I can replace the channel felt instead? Is it easy or require tearing into the door?

anybody know if I can replace the channel felt without taking the door apart?  Is it easy or hard?

Your definately going to have to take the door apart. And as far as the felt goes a dealer should be able to look up the number and order, but maybe you should try looking in a few other places for it (GM direct online or for the cheap-o's JcWhitney). Getting the door apart should only require basic hand tools and maybe a specialty tool for the window handle (local parts store should have for under $10). I've never done this repair nut it doesn't sound to bad.

Forgot to mention it only happens on the inside (I think.. will have to verify) of my driver side window(Do not have to verify this).

Therefore it can't be cleaning agents. I will have to pull the panel off and take a look inside.

I also started having problems with my power windows now that the weather is getting cold. (Canada).. That is a whole other story. Windows Freeze up.. Appear to have moisture inside the door panel's.(can tell on warmer days). Now that it is much colder the window will barely go down 3 inches, and the needs help getting back up...

I think I have a solution. Just don't roll your windows down...Ever! Works like a charm! :loser:

A question though, do you use armor all or something similar? This stuff is nasty on glass. If when you or a PO applied such a protectant, it could have maybe got on the felt, causing the streaking.

As far as replacing the felt, I'm not sure how hard it would be to replace. I seem to remember the felt being attached to the door panel, but I'm not sure. The door panels are super easy to remove, and if the felt is fastened to it, it should be pretty easy to do.

BTW, I've never had this problem myself either.

Very Valid point on the armor All. I have used armor all and could very well have gotten it on the felt. I will get the panel off and try cleaning the felt.

Never even came across my mind.

Thanks
