Engine Oil Additives

I would not recommend it.

What do you mean when you say small leaks? Where are the leaks?

Will adding an engine oil additive that stops small leaks work without damaging (clogging ) parts ? Anyone ever use it ?

If you mean the leak stoppage products that seek to liven up rubber seals and make them pliable again I have used them with mixed results. They may work on crank seals some but seem to be less effective with leaking valve cover gaskets which often are cork anyway. I haven't seen such a product claim to "plug" leaks as that type of action might be a problem. Used as directed I don't think they will hurt but don't be surprised if you see less than major results.

Rear main bearing oil seal. After posting this I read about a valvoline product that (rather than plugging things up) affects the condition of oil seals. I may try this.

Anyone know if GM uses a product like that to eliminate slow leaks ?

The only product that I would use to clean the inside of an engine and it also works on small leaks is Auto-RX. I have had great results with it cleaning and it works on stopping small leaks. You can read more about it here.

I have used it several times twice on our vehicles and on some customers vehicles and when I did an oil analysis on them after the treatment and the report came back with less wear metals than the previous reports.

If your interested in trying Auto-Rx let me know I keep a supply for new customers to use before they switch over to AMSOIL.

How old is your vehicle and how many miles are on it?

Interesting. That doesn't make sense if the seal has shrunk and needs to swell it isn't that old. But then you never know. If it has stopped leaking then what ever you did different might be what has helped. Synthetics of today do not cause leaks. They have seal conditioners in them to prevent that.
