Took Truck Back To The Dealer...

Took my 08 back to the dealer this evening to be looked at tomorrow. Since i bought it the brakes vibrated. the rotors are very pitted from rust due to sitting on the lot for 10 months.

That was the main reason to go back then I left a list of other things to check. Do you feel weird having the dealer check many things? I think I am a bit crazy sometime (thats what the wife says) but I like to stuff to be perfect.

Here is what else I wanted looked at:

Driver door makes rubbing noise. Sounds like an adjustment.

Truck seems to have a shuttering noise around 65. Maybe tires are flatspotted?

I feel a vibration when the AFM kicks in. I wanted the truck checked for the latest program in the ECM.

I also told them that I wanted the front rotors replaced not cut. The truck is brand new less the 1k miles so why should it have cut rotors. hopefully they will replace them.

Nothing wrong with handing the dealer a long list of complaints. that's what the warranty is for. As for your tires, since you have 20" rims with lower profile tires, they could have developed flatspots if the truck sat on the lot for a long time. Flatspots are typically temporary and they will go away after the vehicle is driven on a regular basis. They would cause a thumping type sensation at speeds around 60 MPH and up.

As for brake rotors, if the brakes chatter, have the rotors replaced for sure, Same for the brake pads. Turning these cheap rotors will only make them warp more easily again.

And the AFM system - it is supposed to be seamless. For the first 100 miles. :)

+1 I have done that many times over and even typed up a copy and left it in the truck when they take it into the bay... then there is never a 'question' of what i wanted checked.

The last time I took my truck to the original dealer I handed then a typed list of about 8 to 9 thing I wanted looked at. 6 were "can not duplicate customer concern". I duplicated them right in their parking lot when I picked the truck up.

yeah i should have typed something up and left it. i could have added alot more detail. good idea for next time. you dont know how many times i have dropped a truck off for service and when i pick it up they only look at a few of the problems.

Most ROs have only 4 or 5 things that the dealership can jot down before they have to start the secondary paperwork. I tell em to make a copy of my list and simply attach it to the RO

I also told them that I wanted the front rotors replaced not cut.

Good luck with that, GM policy is to turn rotors. They specifically tell dealers not to replace rotors when resurfacing will correct problem. Resurfacing is a accepted practice.

True, GM does have that policy to turn the rotors BUT if the SM is smart enough and the rotors show signs of warping, they will simply replace em.

thats a bunch of BS. Cut the rotors on a truck that has 800 miles on it. i know it will fix the problem but now down the road i am going to have to change out the rotor earlier. doesnt seem right since i just bought a brand new truck. i had to cut my old truck rotors inthe 1st 8k miles because they were so bad.

My recommendation would be to inquire with your dealership and tell not only the SW, but make it known to the SM that you want to have them replaced.

Yeah.... I'm kinda with you there.....

I have no problem leaving a laundry list. I would have to think that ONE trip for five items is more beneficial for the dealer that FIVE trips fro 5 items.... not to mention the fact that we don't all have time to run in for every item that does not affect driveability or safety (rattles, things like that).

well i called at 4pm to see the status. typical they just brought it into the shop. happems to me all the time. the SM did say that they could not replace the rotors. GM makes them cut them. I told them how unhappy i was with this but oh well. didnt seem to make any difference. no word on any of the other complaints i had.

i took my frustrations out on the loaner car!

"Took Truck Back To The Dealer..., Do you feel wierd leaving a long list???"

Hell no! Its why I buy new....so I dont have to repair anything. Thats the dealers problem. I feel lucky after reading so many others here that my dealer has been great in fixing any concerns I have. This is my 3rd new truck and each one had some little things here and there I didnt like and they took care of it no problem...

I always left a long list. they usually keep the truck for a week. every time I knew I lost the truck for 4-5 days.
