Running Boards Added

I finally got around to getting running boards on the truck. I chose running boards over nerf bars for the protection from splashing crud and rocks. Now I have to sell the GM molded splash guards that I bought but never installed because they won't fit. Ah well, I'll order some flat mud guards.

Those running boards look good, what kind are they and about how much did they cost. Thanks.

Nice, I was thinking of those for my 06 but I decided to go with the ones that have the full length step pad...

I have the same Luverne boards on my 08 2500 HD and the molded mud flaps fit just fine. Take another look and I think you find you can use both at the same time.

In answer to several posts... :D

The running boards cost $329 from http://www.truckaccessorizer.com/store/luv...entry_steps.htm

I should add that they installed very easily. Everything fit perfectly. I did not quite follow the instructions -- I installed the brackets first, leaving them floppy loose, then installed the running boards onto the brackets and then tightened the bracket bolts. I did not go with the recommended 65 ft-lbs of torque on the mounting bolts, but rather just got them good and tight. I did use a torque wrench (Proto) on the upper bolts, but it seemed like they were plenty tight before it was ready to release, so I just called that good.

Here is another picture to show the truck with running boards installed.

I may have to check again, but they were bumping into the front plastic on the running boards. Do you have the large molded splash guards (GM # 19154778)?

Mine look like this, but without the GMC logo.

Thanks for the info and the installation hints Deerhunter. I ordered a set of these running boards for my truck along with a set of Husky mud flaps for trucks that have the wheel flares. I will let you know if the front mud flaps fit with the running boards installed when I get them. This may not help you though since my truck is a 2006 GMC w/ the Classic body style, but it may help others. I know what you mean about torquing tightness issues, I like to use anti-seize on my fasteners and I found that if you do this it throws off the torque spec due to the lubricating effect. When I was installing some muffler clamps using anti-seize on the threads, I ended up bending the clamps long before I got to the required torque setting.

I have the same Luverne SS steps on my '07 Reg cab. The splash guards will fit but had to notch the plastic end caps to fit around the guards. Very easy to fix.

These have been on my truck since new and very happy with them. Not as solid under foot as a nerf bars but will keep the crap out of the v-notch at the bottom of the doors. If they feel flimsy under foot, place a large SS fender washer under where they bolt to the backside of the rocker panel. This will reinforce the thin body metal and distribute the weight over a broader area.
