Why Do Loggers Drive "luxury" Trucks?

I watch Ax Men on the History channel and Swamp Loggers on Discovery. Seems like they all drive Ford "King ranch" superdutys or Chevys loaded with every option including leather. Why would anyone want to spend upwards of $50,000 on a work truck that will get beat to death? Just dosen't make sense to me.

Cuz they can! You watch the show, they get money, they show you how they spend their money!

 

If you watch swamp loggers, have you seen Bobby or Justins homes? There must be some good money in that logging! I think they have their own private subdivision. If I had a home like that my wife would make me take my clothes off out in the garage, maybe even the driveway because there would be no way I would be coming in the house in work clothes/boots.

its kind of a status thing, the king ranch is tailored to the "country folks" alot of farmers run them around here, the one i see alot on that show is just a one ton ford powerjoke, it dident look too fancy

because they have the money and thats what they want to spend it on....

 

Not to mention they are probably tax write offs. Plus they spend a lot of time in their trucks they want them to be comfortable. Leather is great for a work truck also. Under most situations, good leather will hold up better then any cloth or vinyl.

I wouldn't be shocked if some of those guys are given their trucks for free by the network or the manufacturers; it's great advertising to have your loaded trucks out there in the public eye -- far better than having W/T trucks on screen.

cut some trees, get your own TV show and drive what you want.

 

Also...remember that the Luxury truck they're driving for a work truck is about the cheapest thing out there in the field...aside from a chainsaw or something...when you have a fleet of semi's, skidders, loaders etc etc etc....a 50K truck is a drop in the bucket.

Did you guys see at the beginning of the year when James and Jimmy jumped into that 1980 ford f-250 that had 600,000 miles and tried to drive it across country from Washington state to Florida? now that's priceless shit right there. I tune in just to watch those 2..

I can think of dozens of farmers when I was growing up who'd buy brand new combines and tractors and pickups every few years. My old man's F150 has been knocking for 5 years and his tractors were built when he was in college.

 

But those dozens of farmers went broke and had to work in town (some actually went bankrupt). My dad is still farming, some of it those guys' land.
